Great discussion, y'all. The vibrato we are all talking about is not really a new aspect of Adam's vocals. If you listen to Soaked on the GNT DVD, he incorporates a very similar technique. I tend to think of it as Adam's "opera" voice. To me, it is what TSMGO absolutely needs. The intro sounds like a full orchestra. Very classical feel, which was characteristic of some of Queen's songs. Adam chose to sing in the style that fit with that orchestral, classical sound. Adam also produced a very bright, almost piercing tone for that sound, whereas in Soaked his tone was a bit darker and rounder. Again, I think that the bright, piercing tone was intentional, to cut thru the orchestral backing, and because Freddie's vocals had some of that quality. For WWRY, a song that has no classical backing but is an all out stomping rock song, he sings with a straighter rock voice.
Then, I recall Adam singing WWFM for the kids he was mentoring, and he uses a very different, intimate voice, tone, and light vibrato. Isn't it amazing how many different sounds he can produce to fit the situation and the song? And, yes, I would say it is all very intentional, very thought out. He is a great interpreter.

So happy to find you - just today due to EMA spectacular performance. I have been telling my friends " Just listen to that voice!" X2 years and he still takes my breath away every single time.
I became a fan when he hit that high note on "you" in tracks of my tears on Idol. So beautifully full.
And... the technique he has in songs like Whole Lotta Love to hit a climax where any other singer would be outta air and then he comes back for the real finale - 10 x fuller and stronger - he just seems to have inexhaustible breath that is soo..sexy!
Thanks for this thread

Thanks for this thread Welcome!!! So glad you found us. I hope you will join us in discussing the amazing voice that is Adam Lambert. We have been slow lately with no new music since OOL, but as you can see, when something new comes out, we jump on it! You got hooked on Tracks of My Tears? Are you talking about the final note? He was singing 'I NEEEEEEEEED". That certainly blew me away. It started so lightly I thought it was falsetto. Then, as he sustained it he intensified the tone and volume gradually, like turning up the dial. He was singing in full head voice. Then, he dialed it back to pianissimo again. Such mastery to be able to do that, and on a high D! That moment certainly would hook any vocalist! Now that you have found us, please post something on the daily thread introducing yourself. We love to read "How I discovered Adam Lambert" stories. And we love to welcome newcomers. Hope you enjoy playing with us.

And vocaly, not emotionally, Tracks of my Tears is for me better than Mad World. I was so happy when Smokey gave him a standing ovation. Perfection.

Didn't know where to put this. Has anyone else been watching the Sing Off? They did group numbers on the finale last night - one with all the girls and one with all the boys. Very entertaining.
And an extra because I just enjoyed it. The Dartmouth Aires doing Pinball Wizard.
Michael, the black dude belongs in musical theater. I hope he gets to have a career.
