One Direction, Rihanna, Madonna & Adam Lambert: Real-Time Twitter Chart Rewind Ep. 43

Welcome back to Billboard's weekly video show "Real-Time Rewind," which recaps the past week's hottest action on the Billboard Real-Time Twitter Charts --Trending 140 and Emerging Artists -- and the news that's driving the action. Joe Levy is in the studio for episode 43, which features One Direction, Rihanna, Madonna and Adam Lambert.
So what was happening on the Real-Time Charts this week?
One Direction has historically dominated the Trending 140. Last year, the band had 19 different songs reach the No. 1 spot. This week they’re back on top with "Spaces," a song that Directioners gravitated towards to cope with the departure of Zayn Malik. (On "Spaces," Zayn sings, "who's gonna be the first to say goodbye?") It spent a total of two hours at the top of the Trending 140 in the two days following his departure.
Zayn himself hit No. 1 after producer Naughty Boy shared "I Don't Mind," which features the former One Direction singer. What surfaced was a reported demo of a song that didn’t make the cut for One Direction’s last album. After Naughty Boy's tweeted the song -- which succeeded in riling the fans up -- a beef between him and Louis Tomlinson escalated.
Rihanna performed her new song, "Better Have My Money” at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. The song rose to the top of the Trending 140, causing Rihanna to have the biggest song of the week after it debuted at No. 1 on the weekly Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks chart.
Madonna also appeared at the iHeartRadio Awards. Her song "Ghosttown" climbed to the top of the Trending 140 after she brought out Taylor Swift on stage with her to play backup guitar.
In a strange coincidence, Adam Lambert also hit the top of the Trending 140 with a song titled "Ghost Town," after he previewed a few seconds of it on Instagram. "Ghost Town" is a new single from his long-awaited third studio album, The Original High.
The Trending 140 chart measures the acceleration of conversation around artists and their music, while the Emerging Artists chart measures the volume of tweets around new artists and their songs.

Adam Lambert is fresh off his tour across the globe with legendary rock band Queen, which finished recently with a stint across Europe.
Now the tour is finished, Adam has returned to the studio to add some finishing touches on his new album ‘The Original High’ but what advice was given to him by Queen?
While speaking to Billboard, Adam revealed that during the tour, both Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen gave him some very helpful advice when it comes to the new record.
The singer-songwriter explained that the pair told him to: “Just to keep it real. They encouraged me to be who I am, which is great. Coming from a band with a legacy like that, it’s important.”

He went on to speak about the bond he’s formed with Queen over the past few years of being on the road together, saying: “We’re all very comfortable with each other…
“Both Brian and Roger are both very paternal with me. We play a lot on stage; there’s a lot of ad-libbing and free-styling.”
Later this year, Adam is going to release his new album, the aforementioned ‘The Original High’ and the first single to be lifted from that will be ‘Ghost Town’ which will be available on the 21st of April.

In other news, during an interview with Hunger Magazine Adam was asked how he feels about being credited with advancing gay rights in the music industry, and during his reply, he explained that he’ll continue to fight for equality.
He said: “There’s a simple power in being unapologetic and open about who and what you are and not letting it prevent you from getting what you want.
“In that way, I think I’ve made a statement. My wish is for gay to become less of a label, and more of just one of many great colours in the collective box of humanity. I’m not a separatist. I’m all inclusive.”

Adam Lambert is growing as an artist and as a man, and it shows in his dress sense. The singer, currently gearing up for the release of his third album, The Original High, attended the iHeart Music Awards in a subdued stripy top with leather pants and a slim-fit black blazer.
Lambert stays true to his glam-rock image with tastefully curated accessories, black nail polish, and a pair of gorgeous suede boots. He also looked great on a more casual evening, trading stripes for a floral shirt and a wide brim fedora --a bit of Jimi Hendrix flair for spring. Rock on!

Adam Lambert, Ariana Grande and One Direction rank in Top 20 Global Concert Tours list

The Top 20 Global Concert Tours list has been released thanks to trade publication Pollstar and it sees the likes of Adam Lambert and Queen, Maroon 5 and One Direction all finish in the Top 10.
The list was compiled from data provided by concert promoters and venue managers and the order is determined by average box office gross per city and includes the average ticket price for shows worldwide.
One Direction topped the poll at No.1, Adam Lambert and Queen's stage show finished at No.6, and 'Maps' hitmakers Maroon 5 came in fifth place. Other notable entries include Chris Brown at No.10 and Ariana Grande at 12.
Back in February, meanwhile, Adam Lambert and Queen won Ultimate Classic Rock's Tour of the Year award and they earned the title after securing an impressive 57% of the vote, beating the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Judas Priest and Steel Panther, Kiss and Def Leppard, Sir Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, and Bruce Springsteen.

Spotify On-Demand is a great choice -- counts for all the Billboard Charts: You need to download Spotify and install it, but I think it is worth the effort. This is my fav streaming site and it has the most influential playlists for pop music. Set up your account and follow artists with a lot of current hits (Mark Ronson would be a good choice) and follow Adam if you like him
