I thought I read "I'm so over James, etc." That sure is not a critique of his singing or helpful. It is a total dismissal of the person as a singer. I have read so much on this topic, I can't remember what Adam actually said now. Can we get over this? To say that Adam has no power certainly negates the $325,000 collected for charity:water. If it were not for Adam, I would not have given my money three or four times. I admire Adam so much I would do anything to make him look good. I was so proud of everyone who gave so much, and I was so happy for him that he made that second goal and more. I think Adam has a lot of power. By cherrypicking the most controversial quote out the story and leaving out the rest, you're ignoring all the positive things Adam said. And motivating people to donate to charity is apples and oranges compared to motivating people to vote for an Idol they don't already like. Maybe people who already like Haley might vote a little harder for her, but I can't see that having any sort of huge effect on the outcome.

Happy Birthday Aspen!!!
ITA with so much have been said. I am in the Apologize for what?? team. As someone who has gone through a grueling creative program my entire college career where feedback and critique was handled quite badly (think Simon) and then experienced later creative programs where criticism was handled very well (think Oprah), I can tell you, the difference is profound.
Like Holst and Jojo pointed out, effusive praise can be equally as damaging. I think the judges behavior this year borders on creative abuse – they praise, then Jimmy comes in and plays the villain role, which makes him seem even more mean and sinister and meanwhile, these kids have learned nothing. And they're going to be launched into an industry thinking they are the shit and get slapped in the face by the music industry machine.
Adam grew up in theater and every theater production I've ever heard of, you get "notes" after each rehearsal. Usually the entire cast is given at once, so the director runs through them very quickly. In my experience, they were usually quite matter-of-fact – whatever the director saw at the moment, and jotted down that he or she thought needed attention: Joe, you missed your lighting cue; you were supposed to switch to the white spot on that ... Mary, you came in a half a bar too early. Jane: You were sharp on the second phrase of your solo. Adam has mentioned he is very used to taking notes and this is what he tried to convey to the other season 8 contestants because the judges' critique was messing with their heads (Lil).
Does anyone have the compilation of Adam mentoring on last year's Idol? He did it very much the same way as this interview. He would compliment, then give constructive suggestion. That is valid. That is helpful. That is, IMO, the ideal balance for mentoring a creative. (It IS a very tenuous thing as I think everyone who has gone through their own creative battles knows.)
An yes, he was asked and answered it directly and for him to duck giving constructive feedback would be as cowardly as the judges have been this year and that does no one any favors. And he owes no one an apology.
ETA: Irish, I just saw your question about the "over James" thing. That was an indirect quote and I thought the way Shirley Halperin couched it, Adam was referring to being over the comparisons. However, she DID leave the qualifiers out to draw controversy and interest to the article. It worked.

For those who don't mind voting for stuff - a few votes at the Q102 Ultimate Idol thing would be nice Looks like the FOO's have been voting up a storm overnight. It takes a lot of votes to move this at all, but when I went to bed last night Adam had 51.51% - he is now at 50.41% and there is less than a 1% difference between him and Jordan. Its only a couple more days for this round and it would be nice to keep him in it. This doesn't really mean much, but Q102 has been a BIG supporter of Adam and it is sort of nice to let them know that his fans are still paying attention.... This is one of those awful polls where you can vote as much as you want - just refresh the screen and vote again. I'm assuming the FOO's are using bots (which I am doing my own today - have a spare PC at work today <evil grin>) but if we can get 100 people to vote 10 times each, that ballances out a bot running for several hours..... www.q102.com/pages/ultimate-idol/index.htmlI voted 10 times for Adam but nothing changed. I hate these polls. I have been religiously voting everyday at least 10 times and more a day.

Wow. So many responses. Amazing! It was not that big a deal. IMHO and in my world "I'm kinda over him" is a pretty insulting general dismissal. I think anyone could agree with that even if he said some nicer things afterward. That is life. Adam knows music and singing, he has strong opinions, and he is a free agent. All reasons why I love him. RESPECT ALL! Peace.

All I have to say on the Adam versus James fracas is that the sooner James takes his rightful place as the frontman for the hair metal revival band d'jour and heads to Atlantic City the better. He can play one of HeWhoCannot ameds casinos - it'll be perfect... :-) :-)

I hate these polls. I have been religiously voting everyday at least 10 times and more a day. There is something seriously wrong with the voting procedure on this poll. Kelly Clarkson is barely beating Kat McPhee?? WTF! I think what people of other fans are doing, as they vote for their Idol, is that they are also voting for the person they think will give their Idol the least competition in next week's poll. For example, the Clay fans (when they vote for Clay) are probably taking the time to vote for Kat and Jordin because they know it wll be less competition than Adam. Does that make sense?
