i've seen adam many times live and countless videos, he seemed excited, exuberant to me, not nervous. just my opinion but can some people really read that much into it, kind of detracts from enjoying it.

Hmm, I have only recently come to terms with my music dinosaur status. My background isn't classical at all. I loved rock because it hit you in the gut (or slightly lower); then I loved punk and post-punk and alt because of its immediacy. Punk was known for its DIY aesthetic, where anyone could get up on stage, but actually the best punk bands had great musicians. I'm not feeling the backing track stuff at all. My first experience of spectacle over musicianship (I.e., guys in usually flannel shirts rocking out) was seeing Miley Cyrus when she was still Hannah Montanna riding a Harley hung from cables from the ceiling (lol) and then Jonas Bros on giant pedestals rising from the middle of the arena with giant Super Soakers (daughter's teeny-bopper phase). Never saw Madonna, Katie, Gaga, Beyonce, Bieber, etc., etc. I thought after JoBros, "huh, that was actually fun. I can see why people would enjoy this as spectacle." Oh, I also saw One Direction in the waning days of afore-mentioned daughter's teeny bopper stage a couple years ago. But for me nothing ever will beat the interplay of musicians and of vocalists harmonizing. It's like a movie that relies too heavily (or entirely) on CG. It's lacking soul; it's just airless. I love how Adam harmonizes with himself because he is really amazing at coming up with different parts and can sing them all. But it just doesn't cut it to sing to a multi-layered backing track live. I've always wondered why he didn't have other people doing harmonies on his albums. It's just so much more dynamic. Someone like Jesse J would have been awesome, but it seemed she was aiming for higher-profile collabs from the beginning. We'll see with Tove Lo, but it seems like so many missed opportunities. Did he not have the clout? The cool factor? The budget? Is he a control freak/perfectionist that he has to do all the vocals (unlikely because he seems very generous in the rare times he has performed live, but there are tons of artists), are people intimidated? Now it doesn't even seem to matter with how much the sound is manipulated. He seems to be in a slightly awkward strata where he can't afford the theatrics to pull off these more electronic songs. He went the funk/disco route last album, which had promise, since a ton of musicians and singers can all jam on stage, ala Nile. But it didn't work because album didnt sell well enough. (Btw, anyone curious what the song from Trespassing that Adam contacted Hype Williams to direct? Maybe Shady?) I would also love to see him have both a male and female backup singer. And ofc dancers so he wouldnt need to rely on his limited dance ability. Yes, he can work the stage and dances pretty well and yes he can still sing in amazing poses/positions, but he can't hide his weaknesses among a troupe of dancers. He's a singer, not a dancer (lord knows there are plenty of hugely popular artists who can dance but not sing very well). Anyway, I'm sounding a little fatalistic here. I really love Edge of the Night and can hear so much promise for a live performance there--WITH backup singers. The other songs, not so much, but I'm really a poor judge of pop music. Not sure I've ever liked a song he's tweeted about, lol. Signing off from the Cretaceous period.
