Just me or does anyone else think "There I Said It" is actually a refusal to be hidden/second class citizen/coming out song? I have been consumed by RL situations for the past five days, so I am frantically trying to catch up. I can picture several interpretations of this song, including this one. I can also imagine it as a message from Adam to his mommy-bert fans. You know those who love love love Adam but take exception to something he says or does. Who think it is their duty to advise Adam about his choices, his appearance, his fashions, his tattoos, his musical style, his tweets, his statements to the press, his friends and lovers, his language, his choice of single, his PR, etc. etc. I see Adam as a natural outlier. Amazingly eclectic, more than a little ADD, a consumer of all sorts of music and trends, driven, highly goal oriented, mercurial, fickle (a word he has used to describe himself), easily bored, constantly looking forward to something new. He refuses to be put in a box, to conform to an image or label, or be told what to do ("I HATE being told what to do.") He can be stubborn, even oppositional, tho' mostly with a smile. So, could this be Adam's way of telling his loving but bossy fans, the media, and his team that while he will try to please, if pushed, he is gonna push back? Very well put, Cassie, because there's no doubt about it, these fans do exist and it must really niggle him. I initially thought it was about his affairs with closeted actors, etc, but I can see he could be expressing things on many levels in these lyrics...

I thought "The Light" was his FU to rca and whoever else might try to box him in.

I need to listen to it with the lyrics in front of me...Yeah, I can see that, as well as a few other things coming up for me....

I am! Still here rattling cages I guess! I too hope he's successful. He's a genuinely likable guy, with a great voice. As for him wanting to a pop star...I know I never implied otherwise. I also have never said/implied he should do something he doesn't want to do. He has every right to chase the pop ring More power to him! And likewise, I have every right to wish he went a different direction. He ain't losin' sleep I'm sure and neither am I...Just simple personal preferences. I do like to think I am a good representation of the open minded Queen fan who would come to check out TOH after seeing him in QAL so I'll be interested to see how many of them pre-order/buy. Of course putting Brian on a track is a shrewd way to make certain the obsessive side of Queen collectors buy it I'm not canceling my preorder or anything I hope he does well enough for you guys to get a solo tour.... Rattle away, sweetheart, it's good for those who can't take other people have differing opinions to their own to be rubbed up against from time to time...

I really wanted the possible last post in this amazing first listen thread to be all about the beautiful music Adam has created for us, not only in The Original High, but throughout the six plus years that most of us have adored him in all his incarnations. Adam is beautiful whether his hair is black, white, green, or caramel or his face is bare or gently whiskered. He has embraced his fans with welcoming arms, from the quiet introspective ones to the loud outspoken ones. But whatever their opinions and desires, he has always been his own man making his own music as his best self at that moment in time.
The Original High is his voice and it is beautiful, complex, and layered. It will keep me happy for a long time until Adam morphs yet again. But until that time comes, and I am in no hurry, I celebrate Adam's spectacular music.

"I am the LIGHT"! Yes, you are, baby! This album is everything I could (but didn't) imagine. I love every single track and I've been dancing around my house like a whirling dervish for hours, but "There I Said It" makes my heart---my SOUL--flow from my chest with so much longing, regret, and fucking redemption...I can't even... I love this man and HIS music. He is brilliant and stands in no one's shadow. Not even an "iconic" rock band's and their "legendary" front man. If POP isn't your cuppa, stand aside and make more room for the rest of us to dive into this potent tank of pop-y spirits to swim and float and drink 'em up in lusty gulps...and quite possibly drown! I can die happy. After all these years, this man still surprises and amazes me. He radiates talent, ability, and creativity with such force that we (mere mortals) absorb it with such joy, process it with our own life experiences, and radiate the magic right back to each other and the Universe. That's the beauty and gift of Adam Lambert. In searching for his original high, he has lead us to rediscover our own. I'm happy to "be" with each of you today.
May the blessings of light be on you. Light without and light within.
