The Original High by Adam Lambert
Adam Lambert released one of the best pop albums so far this year, and unfortunately, The Original High’s 44K unit sales seem to equal a collective yawn, though reviews were overwhelming positive. Reaction from fans and journalists alike has been “it’s his best album yet” — and I would agree. The Original High ditches the bubblegum and over-reliance on theatrics for a tempered, brooding dive into reality. The result is a darker, more focused Lambert. For the first time in his career, it feels like real life has dictated art, instead of art dictating life. It’s been six years since he appeared on American Idol, but many still see him as a diva more focused on his image, a characterization that Lambert recently dismissed in an interview with BBC. Hey, people, if he’s good enough for Brian May (guitarist of Queen), who appears on the track “Lucy”, to say he’s the only person capable of performing at the helm formerly held by Freddie Mercury, it’s time to move on and find someone else to nonsensically complain about.
