Top 20 Greatest Kept Hollywood Secrets: 10. Most Pop Stars Lip-sync Onstage It’s not easy singing your heart out night after night. The grueling lifestyle of a touring musician is not an enviable one. Sleep deprivation, the struggles of staying in shape, keeping your vocal chords loose and ready to belt each high note to crowds of thousands is no easy task. Naturally, some pop stars decide to cut corners wherever possible. Because a robotic, autotuned sound is a small price to pay for perfection, right? While some musicians experimented with live overdubbing during performances before him, Michael Jackson was one of the first artists to blatantly let the machine do the singing for him onstage. Fans argue this was a necessity so he could perform his complex dance routines without passing out. Whatever the reason, the effect was clear. Michael Jackson Live Performance Videos – Order now Today, it’s rare to find a pop act that performs any live vocals at all. Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, and Madonna almost always mouth along to a recording, and frequently that recording has had so many effects applied to it in post-production that it sounds nothing like their actual singing voices. Ashlee Simpson famously stormed offstage during her performance on “Saturday Night Live” after the crew began playing the wrong track. Whether or not this practice is a cheap cop out or just part of the show is up to you, but the fact remains that real, unfiltered vocals are getting rarer by the minute in pop music. www.hollyfame.com/top-10-greatest-kept-hollywood-secrets-of-all-time/10/

Cannot get over how much I am taken with the live version of this song. Every bit of it enthralls me, even the"grown ass man," which I didn't fall to at first. But when you see Adam singing it, a grown ass man in real life, with emotion, for me it loses it's jarring-ness, doesn't take me out of the song like it did at first. And as I said before, the build of the song, to that glorious note at ~4:24? Slays me, absolutely knocks me out. There is just something about seeing Adam hit a glory note, how he puts every fiber of his being into it, how he takes me on that ride, so in control, so amazing. And the content of the song? Don't know what liner note lyrics say, but I hear, "I'm sick and tired of living in your shadow s." Which gives it a whole different meaning, to me, than the singular. Shadows being the places in a relationship that you don't talk about, the places where there is a tacit agreement not to go. The places where things are hidden, not addressed. And that is what he is sick of, the subterfuges, the darkness, the untruth. I know we say he is an alien from Planet Fierce, but I do think he has evolved, certainly more than I, in the realm of honesty in relationships. Just a guess garnered from his lyrics and interviews, but I feel it is what he strives for. And is comfortable with. But anyway, love this song. Really really want to hear it live. cassie wrote: (actually, she just posted the article) Probably naive of me, but I was surprised to learn that Lady Gaga "almost always" mouths along to a recording. She is the one of those three that I actually think can sing with any range and art. You just never know, right? I have really only seen her on screens, never gone to one of her concerts. I'm not challenging you in any way, cassie, not meant to sound like it, but I'm wondering about the performances below. I'm thinking that I might not be as adept at spotting phony singing as I thought! And I trust your expertise absolutely, so just inquiring for my own edification. Do you think this was lip sync'd? or this: ETA: Boy, I didn't even know that I liked Lady Gaga that much! Sorry if I came off defensively, sort of surprised at my reaction to that article. Thanks for posting it, cassie, I think I'm going to have to go see her in concert, I guess I like her more than I thought!

Red Panda, Gaga does not lip sync. I have seen her show 3 times. She uses a heavy backing track and lets it take over when her dancing is very involved. Otherwise, she is live over the track. As you noted above, sometimes no backing track at all. That article over generalizes and unfairly pulls Gaga into it. Red Panda, you should definitely go see Gaga, if you never have! She is excellent!

I' m still confused how Adam & WBM make money if Adam doesn't sell many albums or any artist for that matter.
