pattihum, I wish you could have been at that Costa Mesa show. I know I go on and on about it, but that voice? Filled the outdoor ampitheatre and overflowed like a tsunami to the people on the grass, and probably all the way to Hawaii, as far as I know (exaggeration for effect). No QAL that time, just that one in a billion voice. Honestly, it was one of the first things that struck me about his voice live, how it filled the space.

Gaga does not lip sync. I have seen her show 3 times. She uses a heavy backing track and lets it take over when her dancing is very involved. Otherwise, she is live over the track. Katy Perry is the same way. Britney definitely lip syncs. Don't look at me. I just quoted the article. From what I gather, when Gaga is doing a big production number she uses a heavy backing track, but sings along with it. This is common, because with the amount of dancing and movement the number requires, she would have difficulty maintaining proper breath support for consistent vocals. The backing track would smooth it out and cover the glitches, times she runs out of breath, etc. Perhaps when she is doing the most complicated choreography she is not actually producing sound, but is lip-syncing. I believe the article is accurate in saying that most of the big pop singers do this. To me, that is cheating. If I pay big bucks to go to a live performance, I want it to be LIVE, not the sound I can hear on my iPod. However, that is the style, the norm for those big pop shows. If audiences want the pageantry, the movement, the flying in on props, the vigorous dance moves, then the live, unadorned vocals are nigh to impossible. I think for most concert goers, support from backing tracks and backing singers is expected and accepted practice. Adam has used vocal backing tracks of the melody as well as the harmonies on this most recent group of performances. Not sure why, but I assume it gives him the depth he wants while singing the less resonant, less showy, pop/top40 sound he is going for this era. Not my cuppa, but, as I often say, I ain't his target demographic. I want him to sing "Bring Him Home" just standing still on stage. Just Adam and his glorious voice. Yeah, ain't gonna happen. Oh, well. Cassie, I do think it will happen. I think there will be an amazing Broadway show in the future, a movie where he is singing and recordings of different kinds of music then pop. Hope he continues to take exquisite care of the instrument so when that time comes it is there in its full glory. Maybe he may find when he has the full pop success he wants, more of it is Chasing TOH. Then it may be off to other ways of using that magical voice.

Oh, well. Adam's use of pre-recorded backing vocal tracks is not unique to the current TOH era. He used pre-recorded backing vocal tracks on the Glam Nation Tour. Cam did some back-up singing, but one voice wasn't enough to create the vocal harmonies that Adam apparently wanted. He didn't use backing vocal tracks for the Trespassing concerts when the back-up singers were performing with him (but they re-appeared when the back-up singers didn't perform). QAL didn't need backing tracks, of course, because all of the band members sang back-up. Personally I'm also not a fan of the use of pre-recorded vocal tracks, which is why I think Adam should hire some first-rate back-up singers for his live concerts, or hire band members who can sing (like Queen did). But I understand that costs extra $$$$ which he may not want to invest at this time. Hopefully the pre-recorded vocal tracks will go away when he goes on tour.

Awww....thanks for the video of IIHY from The Tabernacle. I can see me for a split second in the crowd...first time I met Adam. Yes, he does a great job of jumping and singing at the same time.
I haven't watched any old videos lately from back then....such fun times.
Just in case any of the newer Adam fans happened to miss this encore from The Tabernacle....wow!
This is an Improved Version by Lambosessed and she used our own Misha's audio. Misha had great audio from The Ryman as well.....wish she had been at Morongo...lol.

Thanks Q3 for your answer. I'm just going to assume that everything is going to be okay. I've been off watching Lambertlust full show. Really changes the perspective seeing the whole show even though we don't get the closeups, I actually could understand Wicked Game a lot better. The guitar player, Brad, is listed on his web site as a backup singer. From their instagrams and web sites, I see these guys all know each other. The keys player, Peter, has a fun sense of humor. He even has an instagram of his cat playing the keys. I love the drummer. What a character! His comment after Jimmy Fallon about Adam...This guy can sing. Peter said he was already booking for July...probably his own gig but I can dream he meant with Adam. I think they'll bond pretty well with Adam if they do tour together and they're all very professional so we would get some quality music.

RedPanda - agree! Just a couple of weeks ago I played my favourite ' Soaked' video for a friend of mine. At the time, I played it over and over. And it's this one from Costa Mesa - filmed from way back - because from a distance, it shows how his voice overwhelms the whole space. Turn the sound up! e Video by lynnelynne...
