looks like Taylor was interested in diving too: negativeneil Neil Lambert@TaylorG90 scuba diving without you. Sorry, I can't wait around forever.
Scuba used to be my passion. I have over 500 dives and have been many places around the world. I had started to take cave diving lessons and had shark diving in a cage in Australia on my bucket list. I did, however, dive with the sharks in Galapagos. My scuba gear doesn't fit anymore and my underwater camera gear which costs thousands of dollars is outdated. Now everything is digital. It bothers me that I was able to manage a manual camera with a strobe and all the adjustments underwater but can't manage a stupid $300 digital camera. PastaBaby, hubby is an avid diver. He still uses his Nikonos V with the strobe, etc. He sends it to a Nikonos place once a year and they do a service on it, change the O-rings, etc. If you want to get your manual camera in shape, I'll give you the name and address of the place. It still takes great pictures above and below the ocean. i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq353/littledeb10/23_15.jpgi463.photobucket.com/albums/qq353/littledeb10/3-3a-3.jpgI took very good care of my Nikonos V. I always cleaned it and made sure the O-rings were greased (not the most fun part of underwater photography). Nikonos has a place in Long Is, NY, that services it and there are also professional camera shops here in NYC. Or there used to be. Everything seems to be cheap and relatively disposable these days. I would like to sell my camera/strobe at this point. Sugaree, can you ask your husband if he knows how I would go about that? My strobe is an Ikelite strobe. edit: loved the pix. Reminds me of a tarpon that used to follow some people around during night dives in Cayman. Because of their size, tarpons would scare most people. But "Charlie" was friendly (if you didn't taunt him) and I looked forward to seeing him on my Cayman visits.

I would love to know how Neil can afford not to work for so long and travel like this. The economy is still not great and he had such a hard time getting a job in NY. Sounds like he is having a blast maybe Adam has a job for him if he every comes home. Either that or this girlfriend is rich and supporting him. Jealous wish I had no responsibilities and was in my 20's. I think the area of the world he's been in is dirt cheap and he had a well paying job last year and he saved most of his money, maybe? It wouldn't surprise me if Adam were at least in part, funding Neil's adventures. I would if I were in Adam's position and I had a sibling who was extremely smart and interested in other cultures around the world. This is a very educational experience for Neil and he's probably learning more than he ever could in a classroom.

negativeneil Scuba Diving in Koh Chang tomorrow. Soooo excited. about 7 hours ago via web milestougeaux @negativeneil Be sure to remember how to not to destroy your ears going down and your lungs coming up, Mr Uncertified Guy 10 minutes ago via web in reply to negativeneil I love all the Lamberts I would love to know how Neil can afford not to work for so long and travel like this. When I was in my 20's I travelled for a whole year in Australia and New Zealand on $4000. I worked for a very short while once when I hit a town I wanted to stay in. Thought it would be fun. Otherwise, stayed in hostels, ate cheap, met people who actually took me in and fed me. I was AMAZED at the people that were fascinated by Americans and just opened up their homes. Stayed for days at a sheep ranch in NZ after striking up a random conversation with a nice lady I met on the road. Aaaahhhh, those were the days!!!!

thanks, cassie, for the analysis (as always!). Interesting. So I guess the good news for James is that this is something he can certainly fix with a lot of hard work and probably years of study.

I am learning alot from Neil, everywhere he goes I google and read about it. So interesting do not know to much about SE Asia. This is an experience only once in a life time. I am sure he saved alot even on tour he has had no expenses since last summer. What fun the Lamberts are so adventures.

I joined this site a while back but forgot my username and password. I think I remember seeing a buy/sell page. www.nikonians.org/This is the place we get ours serviced. Really great place. I see he has a "used cameras and parts section". www.southern-nikonos.com/I live on Long Island and we didn't care for the service of the place here, but maybe they sell used ones on consignment or outright (can't remember the name but it was part way "out east"). We bought a reconditioned Ikelite strobe there. Not that you haven't thought of it, but I've seen quite a few for sale on e-bay. Not really any earth shattering suggestions here, but that's all I got.

Cassie this question is for you. I too get bummed at the JD comparisons and ther is a post on the AI official forum called "James does not have a pitch problem" by some voice expert and I was wondering what you thought. myidol.americanidol.com/go/thread/view/86789/27579881/James_Does_Not_Have__Pitch_ProblemIf you have time to explain in the Masterclass thread if that is more appropriate, just curious because what I hear just doesn't sound good but you are so good at explaining this stuff. Thanks! Since it is a slow day here, I think it would be okay to answer this here instead of the masterclass thread? The woman has impressive credentials -- much more impressive than mine. But, I have to disagree with her, in a way. Well, in many ways, but for now, just about pitch. IMO, James does not have a pitch problem but a control problem. Meaning, I don't think it is a matter of him not hearing a bad pitch. If that were the case, he would be consistently off, and he would not correct himself quickly. No, he doesn't have exact control of his voice and his breath support. So, he doesn't always hit the pitch square on. Think of shooting a gun at a target. Shooting a gun is incredibly easy. Just hold it up, pull the trigger, and blam. But, hitting the bulls eye of a distant target, and even better, hitting the MIDDLE of that bulls eye takes hours, years of practice. Total familiarity with the gun, and the impact of various environmental conditions. Perfect eye/hand coordination. And the proper breathing so as not to cause the slightest movement of the gun in your hand. (At least I think that's true. I am not into target shooting, or shooting at all.) Singing is easy. Just open your mouth, activate your vocal cords and your breath, and blam. But singing consistently on pitch, squarely on pitch, up and down your range, at different loudness levels, at different speeds..... that takes drill and practice for years. Not just singing songs for fun, but doing vocal exercises, singing scales, singing intervals (jumping from one note to another). Just as you practice hitting the center of the target when you shoot, you have to practice hitting the center of each note as you sing. Then, you also have to practice your breathing. Breathe a little too hard when you are shooting for a note, and it will go sharp. Don't have enough breath, and you will go flat. Don't have good muscle control and your pitch will vary as you hold a note for a long time. What I hear when James sings is an inconsistency in the pitch. Usually slight, but still unpleasant. Some notes right on, some notes a tad sharp or flat. It occurs more often when he is moving around.... a sure sign of lack of strong breath support. That's my opinion, and I am sticking to it! Thank you Cassie, I was having trouble reconciling what this woman said with what I was hearing but I am no expert. The way I described to myself what I heard with JD is that his voice was uneven and the transition into the higher notes is not seamless so sometimes it comes out of the blue and doesn't seem like the high note belongs there. When Adam takes you there he just is so smooth you don't even realize how high he is soaring until he is there and afterwards you realize you've been holding your breath and can't believe what you just heard.

Wouldn't even borrow money for his keyboard! (Of course, he did ask Adam's fans for it. But I think that was a social experiment for him!)

Neil probably saved every cent he made on tour. What expenses did he have? What expenses does he have now? You can travel pretty cheaply if you know how. Cut out appetizers and desserts and juices. Less alcohol. Buses and trains instead of taxis. Don't buy junk from the gift shops.
I used to go to the Caribbean three times a year; Memorial Day, Labor Day or Columbus Day, and Thanksgiving. I would volunteer to get bumped and wind up with a coupon for a free ticket. I stuck to the same airline to collect miles when I didn't have a coupon.
There are plenty of ways to travel cheaply if you are willing to give up certain luxuries. I bet Neil has figured some of them out. I doubt Adam is financing any part of Neil's trip. Will Neil live with Adam when he gets back? Probably. At least temporarily. He says his piano is already there.
