I met some Queen fans at the Queen Extravaganza show this summer. Of course Adam was being talked about too. So... I did some TOH promotion. One of them actually bought the album, listened to it and sent me his opinion.

He loves Ghost Town (for the Dutchies here: 'waaanzinnig nummer'), but loves ALN even more. He calls it he best song on the album, great showcase for Adam's voice (10/10! Vol volume en gaaaaan!). Another of his favorites is TISI, although he hopes that the live version will be more exciting, since this is produced too smoothly for his taste. He likes Lucy too ('finally! a real guitar') and the Light.

For him The Original High and Rumors are okay, but he misses the 'vocal acrobatics' on the last one, Evil in the Night is good too, but not outstanding. He doesn't really like Underground (not his thing) or TIDS (a bit boring).

All in all he likes TOH quite a lot and he will keep playing it. What is interesting to me is that he mostly judges the songs on how well Adam's voice is being showcased. Another fan in the making?? And at the end he adds again, "Another Lonely Night, it's just genius!!"

Oh, and by the way, another of the Queenies I met at the Queen Extravaganza just bought a ticket for the 538 performance on 10 October, because he wants to see Adam sing his own material. He's winning them over one by one!

Now that a new single is really ready to burst forward, I think this is interesting information. I know Shosh told us to wait with Shazaming Ghost Town when it just came out, and I know that people said it wasn't okay / wouldn't help to Shazam Ghost Town a lot of times (which made sense to me). But either something has changed, Shazam can be used in another way, or these guys from Pentatonix don't know what they are doing (and normally they are very good with online promotion, so I don't think so). Here they are having a Shazam party for their newest single.

So..... Should we Shazam ALN when it's officially out?? Or is this absolutely useless since Adam has a different promo path? Does anybody know?? (Or know who to ask?)

I think we had finally settled on - Shazam it once a day and anytime you hear it. We should probably be a bit more organized for ALN but perhaps not to the point of regular Shazam parties I'd think. We are not sure that Shazaming has any effect on US radio but it does seem to mimic it a bit and Shazam says it's a predictor and better at that than something like Spotify which appears to be a lagger.

I started tracking Ghost Town on May 6th when it had 7000 daily Shazams and was #74 in the US. The next week it hit #66 and #4 on Future Hits. By the end of May it had doubled to 15,000 daily Shazams and #50 in the US. It hit 20,000 and #37 in mid to late June (#23 Worldwide) where it preceded to sit until late July where it made 24,000 daily Shazams and was #32 USA and #7 POP. It stayed around that level till the end of August and then began a slow gradual drop and is around 17,000 dailys now and running at #47 USA and #26 Worldwide.

It's fun to track and see patterns from it. You can see different countries just like Spotify and see the early adopters like Denmark, Poland, South Africa, and Ukraine and wonder in sadness why we just can't break into the UK chart. (maybe Shazam parites would help there) Perhaps there are other benefits we don't see directly. Perhaps it influences people creating Spotify playlists or smaller countries radio stations. We just have to remember that US radio is its own beast.
