My Amber has been feeling bad since Monday so I took her for tests at UI vet clinic on Tuesday where they discovered she was anemic. She went back today for a sonagram, and I had a call that there was a large mass on her spleen, 80% chance it was malignant, and it was bleeding into her stomach. She was 10, and it broke my heart, but I decided it was kinder to put my sweet girl to sleep. She was in serious condition and in great pain so if I opted to release her.
She will not be coming home, and I am sad because I lost a beloved furry child today.

It will get better for me, and she is in a better place, and I hope she is not blind wherever she is.

Thanks to you all for your caring words. There are times you just need to know someone else understands. Many don't 'get' just how much you can love an animal so not only do you grieve, you have to explain.

So sorry to hear about your Amber, laceyrose. I truly believe that although it is wrenching, releasing our furry friends is part of taking care of them and helping them to be "well" again. You did a difficult but necessary thing. I had to do the same four days ago with my 11-year old cat who had kidney disease.
Hugs to you and all those who face this situation. I know there are many of us on this board who include animals in our families. One more reason to love atop.

And yes, my Amber is not suffering now. I only had her 2 years (fostered and adopted her when she was 8), and it was not long enough, but I'm grateful for the time we shared.
