Lynne, congratulations on your son's success! Glittergma, glad to hear things are going well for you When I was in Arizona last month I passed out, hit my head, and ended up in the ER. While I was in the ER they discover my thyroid is not working right. Since I got home I've done a bunch of tests and tomorrow I go to the doctor to find out what treatment they want me to do.Please send out postive energy that no surgery will be required and that they didn't find anything bad on my tests. Thinking of you and sending positive energy. I wish you the best. A similar situation happened with my Mom and after tests, she needed to take some daily medication. It was not a huge deal and she felt soooo much better once everything was diagnosed and treated. My best to you.

I hope that all of our Atop members in the area of the devastating tornadoes will check in or contact someone at Atop and let us know they are OK. My heart goes out to all those affected.

Tinafea, I'm sending tons of positive vibes to you. There is so much they can do in treating the thyroid these days. Not exactly the same, but my old kitty, Sasha, has hyper thyroid. She's too old to go through the RadioCat treatment, so I just put a gel on the inside of her ear daily and she's fine. She's lost some weight, but she needed to. And, we've done this for 2 years!
Oh....lol! I certainly didn't mean to imply that you would have to put a gel in your ear daily! EEK! I know several people who also just take a tiny pill every day. I hope all your other tests turn out just fine too. So sorry to hear you fell and hit your head. :(
I'm thinking of all those in Oklahoma also. I tried to call my g/f there and she finally called back for just a second. She is not in the area affected right now, but her husband is somewhere there and was working construction at a school. She said he wasn't answering his phone and she would call me back. No word yet.
Sending prayers to Oklahoma!!

I don't post much - rl has messed with my schedule. But I had a question for anyone who might care to answer. I have rotator cuff surgery coming up in three weeks. Have any of you done this? I am a bit apprehensive, although I think to fix it will be better in the long run than not. Still....... If you have done this and have any info/advice/warnings I would appreciate them. Not a young, healthy athletic person so I think recovery may be a bit unpleasant.
Thanks in advance, and I am glad I will be able to watch videos at least - thank god for the computer and access to Adamtopia.

Not a young, healthy athletic person so I think recovery may be a bit unpleasant. Thanks in advance, and I am glad I will be able to watch videos at least - thank god for the computer and access to Adamtopia. Not exactly rotator cuff surgery per se, but I fell about 10 years ago and broke my right arm and rotator cuff. Had to have surgery on the rotator cuff break (actually broke it in two pieces and they had to put it back together). It wasn't exactly easy because they couldn't splint my broken arm since the incision would have been covered by it, so I was in a sling for 6 weeks. Very hard to move much because every jar sent waves of pain. Mostly I just hibernated on the couch for about 2 weeks, but I was always zealous about doing what little therapy I could from the very beginning. I was determined I would once again brush my teeth, comb my hair, and fasten my bra without help! I had a good friend who came to stay with me though or I could not have managed. Simple things like getting dressed or eating left handed were frustrating. My friend worked so she wasn't with me during the day; once I wanted to make soup and I could not use the can opener. After that I tried to remember to ask her to open any cans I might need while she was gone. Today I have 90% use of my arm and I'm happy. It's still not as strong as the left arm (I lost a lot of muscle tone because of the break and not being able to do more vigorous therapy). The only thing I really can't do is reach behind me--arm only goes so far. The major advice from me is to do all your therapy no matter how much it might hurt. You'll be happy in the end.

Thanks laceyrose for your insights - I keep waffling. Mostly because I will have to give up my independence for awhile (like driving :-( ) and the day to day issues (my husband is not a cook) :-) It will happen, I will be grumpy, we will work it out :-)

Hi Tinafea, I don't often come to the member thread. But I saw your post from a month ago. Hope you are doing fine & that you didn't need the surgery. Maybe you posted somewhere else what the tests showed...if so, I missed it. Anyway hope you just had to do some medicine & that it is working.
