Rihannsu - so sorry to hear about scamp. I certainly know the many feelings you are having right now. Give scamp a extra hug and keep us informed.

Tests went well. There wasn't enough fluid for them to need to do another drain but then again it's only been about 48 hours since the initial drain. But they didn't seen any indication of growths so they have listed it as idiosyncratic pericardial effusion. They think she is a good candidate for pericardectomy and will do further tests on the tissue removed to check for other forms of cancer. Prognosis is good. They have tentatively scheduled her for evaluation by the surgical team next Thursday the 24th with surgery the following day if Michael can get the funds together. They had him fill out forms for their Good Samaritan program which may cover part and he has a few other places he can apply that Dr. Sholl found for him. Estimated cost is $2500-3500. We obviously don't have the money but if he can get any of these financial grants we might be able to get it covered. We don't know at this point how fast fluid may build up again so we just have to keep monitoring her. I sure hope he can qualify to get this covered somehow because I don't know how he would handle loosing her. :(

YAY! Good Samaritan program at Gainesville will cover $2000. One of the admins at Dr. Sholl's office told us to try for a credit increase on the Care Credit because sometimes they will approve for emergencies. I called and through automated thing think I got a $1900 increase. If that is correct then we at least know we can proceed with the surgery next week when it is already scheduled. Some of our friends are chipping in some funds as well so that will help. He has been filling out applications for several other sources but don't know if any will come through before the surgery.

So Michael brought Scamp to Gainesville this morning and they ended up doing another echocardiogram and draining more fluid (170cc)to test that. Still no definitive answer on cause but so far no indication of cancer. They will do the surgery tomorrow morning and if no sign of cancer then everything should go well. If there is cancer then best case will probably be they do enough so that she can have a few good weeks with us before having to be put down but if they think she would be suffering then they just won't let her wake up. If no cancer then they will do the procedure to remove the pericardial sack and she should be fine.
We both just don't want her to be suffering. She stopped eating last Friday and I ended up feeding her with a hypo then she stopped drinking on her own on Sunday although she would lick water as I dribbled it from the hypo. She has not been herself at all this past week.

Scamp is no longer with us. When they started to sedate her for surgery this morning she immediately went in to cardiac arrest and they were not able to resuscitate her.

At one point yesterday they asked Michael if he wanted an autopsy and at first he said no because no point really but then remembered this is a teaching hospital so he asked them if THEY wanted to do it as beneficial to them with teaching and they said yes so he authorized it. They will know more once the chem panels are completed but they did call him back and let him know that there would have been no saving her. When they opened her up her insides were basically covered with lesions. I am assuming some kind of cancer at this point because if it were infections it seems odd that none of her blood work showed any indication. They did mention the possibility of it being fungal but I don't know anything about how that would have been tested for.
