Wow, seriously? I totally disagree with this. Lee has been humiliated by Nigel, tossed aside, given NONE of the winner's usual duties for no other reason than he hasn't been particularly successful. After all this BLATANT DISRESPECT, Nigel comes up to him with a minute to spare before Scotty's coronation and tries to shove him on stage? No warning. Any of that could have been prearranged. It was not only incredibly disrespectful, it was ridiculously unprofessional. And what the hell was Lee supposed to do? Step into Scotty's confetti shower and attempt to say a few words? I say good for him. He was put in a lose-lose situation and he took the option that spared him some dignity and he didn't let Svengali Nigel run his game on him. (I don't think that was even what was going through Lee's mind at the time. He was simply saying no to a ridiculous proposal in an impossible situation.) I felt sorry for Lee when it first broke that he wasn't asked to perform. I felt less sorry when some here pointed out that the guy had his opportunities and still got to perform during the season. I felt even less sorry when his brother called Nigel a scumbag. Yes, it was the brother but I'm sure Lee secretly endorsed the brothers tweets otherwise those tweets would have disappeared. Would your sister/brother tell a business associate of yours that they are a scumbag? Wouldn't you have words if they did? That is not the point anyway. Couldn't Lee swallow his pride and make a two-minute announcement? Did he really feel the need to slap Nigel in the face because he wasn't asked to perform? Lee is the one with an almost non-existent career and everything to gain by the exposure. Is he so secure with Sony that he couldn't try to bend a little for Interscope? Maybe be the better person? Does he realize that by refusing to bend a little means that he will never be on the Idol stage again? What Nigel asked Lee was not such a big deal. Lee was lucky that he got to perform during the season as we now see that what was standard operating procedure for prior seasons is no longer valid for the new regime. Lee cut off his nose to spite his face. Lee was never going to be on that stage again anyway, at least as near as I can tell. He had to make a split second decision, assuming he really wasn't asked until 2 minutes before the announcement. If I were him, my brain would have been spinning. Where was he supposed to go? What was he supposed to do? Was he supposed to say anything? Shake Ryan's hand? Did anyone else know he might do it? Would they know what he was supposed to do? Could it be figured out in under two minutes? I have to say I don't think this was a real invitation, and that there was no way for Lee to come out of it unscathed. I think he did the best he could (and I could make a case for either way he might have decided) given the shameful behavior of Idol. And I am disappointed in Idol's behavior completely separately of how well Lee did or did not sell, or how hard he did or did not work. There were ways to be polite to him even if they didn't want to build him up as a great example of their "product", and Idol was not polite.

Lee cut off his nose to spite his face. Because he was asked to make a spur-of-the-moment decision when asked to suddenly stand up in front of 7500 people live and 25 million people on TV with no preparation, while STEPPING INTO ANOTHER PERSON'S MOMENT. I think anyone with a brain in their head would get a sense that he would come off looking like Nigel's stooge in the best-case scenario or like a complete buffoon trying to hog Scotty's limelight in the worst. I cannot believe for a second anyone would expect that of anyone. It's heartless, IMO. And I would have laughed in Nigel's face too. What the hell does Lee have to lose at this point? Do you think if he kowtowed to Nigel's whims that he'd have any more of a career today than he did last night? No, of course he wouldn't.

Lee chose not to be used by Nigel. Was it the right choice? Maybe not for you but maybe Lee feels differently. I respect his choice.

He didn't want a last-second opportunity? Is his career so firm that he can refuse anything at this point. Does he think he will now ever get to perform on that stage again? Maybe someone should give him Clay Aikens phone number so they can compare notes. I know this is old news by the time I've posted this but between Durbin and DeWyze, it is astounding how foolish they are. Wow, seriously? I totally disagree with this. Lee has been humiliated by Nigel, tossed aside, given NONE of the winner's usual duties for no other reason than he hasn't been particularly successful. I remember at one time we used to regularly speculate: "What would Adam do" and I think that might apply here. If Adam had been scorned in some way and the spontaneous, albeit a bit devious, opportunity arrived to rise above and get some publicity for that, what would he have done? ??? :

With the chaos that is going down in the Nokia right before that last commercial ends and with no peparation or plan??? I can't say what Adam would do, but if you haven't been there during commercials, you have no idea what it is like. Because it is a live show, basically everyone is running around like a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off! My real reaction, to your question though, is that Nigel wouldn't ask Adam because he has more respect for him. I am of the opinion that Nigel's request of Lee was not a real request. He had been inundated with tweets about not having the past winner on the finale. His attempt at getting Lee on the stage and his idiotic tweet that night, are easy to see through, IMO!
