Q3: I teased you yesterday about the "sacrifice" of looking at all the videos so they could be organized. Today I see what a task you have keeping us all straight - like herding cats!
As we've all said many times, THANKS for this place! Yesterday - and most other days - would not be the same if we could not gather here!
We have chosen well - a great talent to stan - and a great administrator to help us keep up with him!

In keeping with the theme of hand-holding, for people in Portland Oregon, there is a chance to hold hands today to show your support for and solidarity with gay community in our town (a response to two men who were beaten last week for holding hands in public). Please check out the social action news thread for more info: bitly.com/jxrUINNoAngel, thanks for your great essay!

SCROLL ALERT: Pretty OT, but sooo interesting, and maybe a *tiny* bit related to the discussion of how different Adam's and Kris' personalities are. This is a commentary by Aubrey Ralph, who has bipolar disorder, and he really clarifies his issues. It is segment two in this presentation: www.wpr.org/book/110529a.cfm

Just reading the Yahoo news and one of the stories was that NYC got unseated as the world city with the most billionaires. Guess what is number one now!!
Today Moscow is the city with the most billionaire residents in the world.

This quote caught my eye. Way more support was given to Adam Lambert than Kris Allen, and we all see how much effort the "Idol" machine put into launching Lee DeWyze's career. Was this true in the beginning? Kris got a great song for a lead single. I remember MJ's criticizing Adam's decision to become a "celebrity". Kris was doing small gigs while Adam was "partying". Adam was networking. He did Red Carpets, Magazine photo shoots (which he said he didn't get paid for), he gave an interesting interview. Every AI tour interview Adam won the reporter over with his charm. Dozens of interviews and different information came out in each one. Kris stated how he hated all those things. He was a home body who preferred to stay home. I have nothing against Kris and am not trying to make a Kris VS. Adam war. I just feel like Adam isn't being given enough credit. Did he start with more label support or did he earn it? JMHO.. On the labels support, just like they have two different manager, they also have different labels, even though they're both with Sony. It's depend on their labels what to do with them. How to promote their artists. On this level, I would think RCA doesn't care who's the winner and who's the runner up. Bussiness is bussiness, they have to promote their own artists. on the management support, since they're manage by the same company I would think the get the same support. It would be awkward if 19M gives more support to Adam. Plus Kris gets the winner contract, so in my opinion he should get a better one. I know it's always been an accussation by some people that 19M supported Adam more than the winner. But then again even though they have the same management, Adam & Kris have different manager that handle their business. If it looks like Adam gets more support from 19M, maybe because his team's more creative than Kris' team. Maybe because the phone rings more often in Adam's management team office than Kris's ... the request of Adam is >>>>> than Kris. I remembered in season 8, I used to hang out in Adam thread in Idol site. There's a guy name NYMichael. He's in the entertainment industry. He informed us that people in the business in the country and around the world wants to know more about Adam. They've watched him every week. IMO, that's why Simon was so confident telling Adam that Sony has found their World wide star in Adam on the finale... I believe Simon would not say such thing if AI & Sony didn't get all those request or questions of Adam from around the world. They know exactly that there's a huge interest of Adam from the music busines outside the US.

You have such an amazing talent Noangel, for pulling out the descriptors that make us “think and feel”, as much as we can from “words”. It gives me that “ahhh..yes” moment. Merci!
Your words today fit so well with a line you composed for a past thread. Put Your Little Hand In Mine 5/29/11 by NoAngel
It had taken Adam hundreds of days and tens of thousands of miles to reach the point where could he hold the hand of the man he loves and smile into cameras with nothing but pride and happiness in his eyes, and to finally walk a gauntlet of microphones talking about what truly matters to him and to us. His music. His dreams. His future.

On the question of who got more support from their label --- Kris vs. Adam. I agree with Lyndsey, RCA gave Adam more support financially than they gave to Kris. But Adam delivered more sales than Kris -- and Adam's much stronger pre-sale resulted in RCA believing they had a bigger sales opportunity with Adam. In addition, during the Idol season, Adam build an international fanbase that was large enough for a number of Sony Music Entertainment country/region managers to want to support FYE released all over the world. Fact is, Adam has proven to be the most successful commercial recording and touring artist from the past 3 years of Idol. RCA should invest more in him. Jive did get LLWD for Kris but at the time this was negotiated, The Script could not break into the US market (after trying for 2 years) and this was the forgotten B-side of a single. So I think there was not a lot of up front payment on this. In comparison, Adam got a Gaga song, 2 Max Martin songs, a Dr. Luke track, a MUSE track, etc. RCA invest much more in Adam's album. But comparing 19M's efforts from the end of Idol until November 2009 --- Kris actually got more opportunities than Adam and had the full winner's run. Something that they did not, and couple not deliver for Lee. Most of these winner's opportunities are negotiated before anyone knows who the winner is. So with David Cook as the current winner, 19M put together a great package of promo events and sponsorships for AI8's winner which turned out to be Kris. But I think we need to give Kris credit -- many people find Kris very likable and trustworthy, and the Ford commercial was used a lot because it was reported to have tested well and to get sales results. ETA: There is almost nothing an artist's management can put together opportunities for someone who isn't hot. An 19M depends on the record label funding promotions. For example, if 19M wanted Lee to open for a major artist, they would have to get his label to pay for it. And since he has no label support, that is not going to happen. Thanks for this information. I, for one, tend to equate 19M and RCA, thinking of them as the same entity, when your post makes it clear they are not. ( Boy, do I feel stupid.) I find this "feud" of which Idol gets the best support from its management or record label rather silly. Regardless of the outcome of a TV reality show, the business folks are looking at who has the best chance to continue to attract the public's interest, support, and $$$. If one looks objectively at the Idol performances of Cook, Kris, Adam and Lee in total, Adam clearly stands out as the artist with the most potential. Not just from the outstanding voice. He could so seamlessly change looks and genres, he could go BIG or dial it back to an intimate performance. A record label could envision him doing a pop, retro, R&B or rock album. Management could easily envision him being a fashion magnet and a Red Carpet star. They could see the ease with which he talked to the camera and related in interviews. They knew that with his extensive background in the theatre he had the potential to spin off into other types of entertainment beyond recording and touring. We say repeatedly that Adam is the total package. If WE can see that, certainly the label and the management "got" that as well. There might be some built in perks as an Idol winner, but they are in place only for the follow-up of that season, until the next winner is crowned. The rest of the post-Idol action is dependent most strongly on the artist him or herself. Adam is making his place in the industry, and it now has nothing to do with an Idol season two years back. IMO.
