I think there might be a possibility that Adam's songwriting is too, deep, too meaningful, too thoughtful and introspective, for it to be as popular as some of the more (apologies for being so judgmental) banal songs that top the charts. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a lot of the pop songs, they are catchy, often ear-wormish. But a lot of them do not make me think. Or they present deeper topics in a lighter way. And I may be wrong, just something I have considered when the conversation turns to the reasons why Adam is not flying to and staying on the top of the charts. Almost as if he is too mature, addressing more meaningful issues. I think that way of his singing also. Kind of like he is too good, it seems too effortless, and people don't recognize how hard it is and how rare a talent he is. All this in my own opinion, of course, and just random meandering thoughts. I have thought this as well. His songwriting is complex and because he likes words (we have a whole thread to prove it) I have also wondered if his co-writers have had to rein him in sometimes. Also, I think Adam would be very hard to write for because if songwriters are worth their salt, they would want to do his voice justice and that is difficult to do with 'light' pop. Also, some might consider that 'light' pop is kind of a sell-out because it would be just too easy for him, kind of like a master chef making pancakes at a diner. I think it would be a little intimidating. One of the things a truly appreciate about TOH is that Max Martin and Shellback put his voice front and center in the production of all the songs. Absolutely best production so far. It has been interesting to me to listen to the TOH songs live because in some ways, they are so close to the studio versions and I realize that is because it is mostly just about him singing, perhaps with the occasional whistle, snap, or moo added. As you said, just some random meandering thoughts.

Jordan Smith is very good.. I don't mind his singing a Freddie Mercury song and sounding a bit like Adam.. I think It's kind of wonderful.. I was reading the comments under the Voice's video of the performance, and some are already saying he has the "best" voice to come out of one of these singing competition shows and the next best thing to Freddie.. how quickly they forget! :-/ Evidently even though Adam has been fronting Queen for years now, his visibility is still under the radar for some.. maybe many. I remember people saying that Joshua Ledet had the best voice ever. If I remember correctly, even Kris Allen tweeted something to that effect. But Joshua never really made it in the US. I heard he's popular in some Asian country. Definitely takes a lot more than a great voice. I was also looking at an article in The Guardian on why Leona Lewis has rather faded into obscurity. Many of the comments there said she was really boring and had no personality. That she had no opinions on anything in interviews. Then we have Adam who is the total opposite but still struggles to get recognition in the US.

Just as one quick example of a more complex, wordy song moving quickly up the charts is 19 year old Canadian Alessia Cara's song 'Here'. The song addresses not conforming to fit in with the 'IN' crowd and the lyrics are very far from dumbed down. IMO it is about luck, timing, a subject that people can identify with....and a great hook that people can't get out of their heads ETA: and just as an aside...... proof that many people don't pay ANY attention to lyrics.....that Hailee Steinfeld song 'Love Myself'.... It was used in a commercial for Global TV here to promote the new fall shows....... the song is about masterbation FFS!!!

Speaking of Adam's eating.....lol. I wish I could motivate myself to eat like he does. Seems he would get hungry w/o many or any carbs....lol. I guess the protein helps with the hunger. I hate to break it to you bamafan but that rider contains almost all pure carbs...they just aren't complex processed ones. The only thing on that rider with any protein at all is the almonds and a wee bit in the quinoi. I sat and looked at how can he not be hungry when there is virtually no protein there!! haha WTF ! where is the Tequila ???? radio shows must be BYOB

I can't really remember now, if I wondered if he was gay before he announced it. Maybe I did, but if I did I can't recall why I did. I don't remember him seeming effeminate to me. Of course, I was gobsmacked by the voice, and by his articulateness, pretty amazing compared to the other contestants, I think. I can't even imagine what it would be like to be the target of those internet comment section bullies. I don't think I have the ego to withstand that kind of vitriol. And it is faceless, even more off putting. And Adam continues to have to face it, doesn't he? He just mentioned (in the Holland contestant video, I think) that the comments after the first time he sang with Queen were brutal. Although, his response, "Man, I have to work harder," is so centered, so mature that it boggles my mind.
