I personally don't see anything in TL that would make it the obvious choice for a young crowd. Maybe for a 20s or 30s crowd, but not for a teens crowd which is what I think this crowd was mostly. Lyrically, it is much more mature that what teens usually go for. And club dance songs are not that big on US radio. True. Lyrically, TL is pretty mature, but the beat is so undeniably catchy, isn't it? I'm sure there were good reasons for Adam not to perform it. I was still surprised though. There is no deep reason for omitting The Light despite what some try to make it seem. A few times before he sang The Light, Adam said " Do you want another dance song?". It is the song he omits from the dance group when there's no time. GT and title track are given, and he apparently has fun opening with Evil. Of course The Light is undeniably catchy and The young will love it. Most of the times people don't know the lyrics of the songs they listen to, yet alone care to understand the exact meaning. At times they love songs that are entirely gibberish or in foreign language because they're fun and catchy (Gangnam Style). High school and college kids don't need lyrics about rainbows and puppy love, and are smarter than you think.
