I definitely see that intangible charisma, stage presence and dichotomy of fierce vulnerability in Adam and Elvis. However, I think Adam is MUCH more prepared for all of this. He has his foundation of family and friends firmly laid and he was much older when he found success. Adam also has Elvis as both a role model and a cautionary tale. Elvis didn't really have anyone blazing the trail for him. His level of celebrity was pretty much without precedence and must have been very hard to navigate. Adam can at least look at Elvis, at Freddie, and let's not forget Michael Jackson, and have an idea of how to avoid the dangerous side of stardom.

I feel Elvis was totally manipulated & controlled in a way we can't imagine now. So much pressure put on him! Recording artists now know how to control their stuff! Freddy, I feel, was just being his own fabulous self, in a time before we truly knew about how to be safe in this day & age of AIDS. And, if you notice, no one is dying from AIDS anymore, they're living with it!! (THANK YOU DRUG COMPANIES! - NOTTTT! - I believe they know things they're not telling us about! Total legal Drug Dealers - but that's another rant!) I truly feel Adam has a handle on these things - knows what to do & what not to do - for longevity! His feet are firmly planted on the ground IMHO! He is truly our 21st Century Boy!! ;D Actually, even though AIDS is managed somewhat as a chronic illness these days (at least in the U.S. for those who know they have it and have access to drug therapy), people are still dying of it every day. 18,000 a year in the U.S, according to the CDC. At any given time we have one or two patients in my hospice who are dying of AIDS or AIDS-related illness. We have a long way to go. And don't get me started on access to drugs in under-developed countries... >:( I have to agree with you on that NoAngel! :-/ I was thinking about those here in the US & our CDC + pharmaceutical companies and their lobbyists >:( My parents get supplies of their Meds, when they go to Thailand! Same meds as here - pennies on the dollar, & made by the same companies here! WTF! They even bring back "scripts" for friends! I'm just sad that I've lost so many great & wonderful friends here! >:(

About Rihanna's mv - it surprised me when I saw it but only because the lyrics suggested to me that the speaker kills the man over infidelity, being "played" - not rape: "What started out as a simple altercation/Turned into a real sticky situation" and "It's a 22, I call her Peggy Sue /When she fits right down in my shoes/What do you expect me to do/If you're playing me for a fool/ I will lose my cool"). I really like the song - wonder if reaction would be different if mv portrayed her shooting him over infidelity - better? worse? Here's Rihanna, by the way, talking about Adam's "controversial" performance: www.accesshollywood.com/rihanna-reacts-to-adam-lamberts-ama-performance-controversy_video_1179075I love the way Adam so easily and clearly makes his point - it's just like on tv shows, folks, "she didn't really shoot him"! About Elvis, I remember hearing/reading somewhere that he dreamed of international travel but that, other than going to Germany as an army soldier, he never left the US because, for some reason, Colonel Parker didn't want him to. I thought it seemed so sad that someone with his fame and fortune couldn't realize his dreams. Have no idea if all that's accurate or not, though . . . Anway (here's the tie-in), I'm so glad Adam has the drive and ability and control to be making so many of his dreams come true.

Dear parents council (and others who love to whine about the degradation of society via media and arts), There is a simple thing that people can do if they don't like the – video, film, book, song, painting, sculpture, story, .... don't watch, look or read. Avail yourself of the off button, the stop button, close the book, turn the page, leave the gallery. For all the protestations about how these things are contributing to the downfall of society I can show you epochs through time where things were so much worse. So please oh please, keep your faux outrage and stop trying and make your values my values - I'm all set thanks. Yours Sincerely, I live in the real world - how about you? I LOVE THIS!

No, remember the big deal was the "simulated blow job" was shown on network tv, before 10:00. This was on MTV, and you can get away with more on cable tv or after 10:00. (like on SNL)

I actually love this. I see it as a protest by Pattinson and Lautner. They are exposing the censoring of Adam for the BS it is. I REALLY think his situation had far-reaching effects and attention from the glitterati in the entertainment industry. I think within the inner circle, he gets pats on the back from his colleagues. Same sex kissing has been all over the place since that happened. The man is a pioneer.
