I totally get what you are saying and I have my own thoughts. They have to do with the reality show factor and other things. When the public perceives a singer as having "evolved" slowly, worked "small" for a period of time, changed here and there, and finally emerged with some hard-won success, I think they are more likely to give them their due, aka, respect. You don't to "like" Bowie or his music, but most people will damn well respect him. Other legacy-type singers are like that. I think we all want Adam to have longevity in the music business (and in show business in general), by virtue of his talent and the support of those fans who will stick by him over time. Shows like AI tend to negate that idea of "paying one's dues" and creating and re-creating one's craft over a long period of time. I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW that some artists pop up suddenly with very little experience and just hit it lucky with a big song. It happens. Good for them.
I agree with you about the raw, uninhibited Adam that we saw at the first Fantasy Springs. I MISS IT SO MUCH. The GNT tour was like that, too. If the public at large had embraced that persona, he may have hung onto it a while longer before he moved on. But he has to market himself carefully. He's toned it down a lot, and may eventually have done so regardless of public perception, but sometimes I think he's toned it down a bit too much. It's been quite a while now since Idol, and many people don't even remember him on Idol firsthand or know what he was like his first few years past Idol. They just know what they see now, and for some, it just might not be enough to excite them. His voice is every bit as good, of course, but some of his edge is gone. He's still sexy, but in a more sleek, classy, cool way, not so down and dirty and grungy (which I love). I know some singers can be all uber-sexual all the time and the public loves it. But they didn't all come from AI either. It's interesting that his foreign fan bases are quite strong. And the Queen gig is a God-send, giving his true, bona fide CRED in the music world.
I know I have said nothing new here, but I know how I feel. I want some of that original Adam back sometimes, along with the new, sleeker, more sophisticated version. Whatever his persona is, I want him to last a lifetime performing, gaining RESPECT and new fans along the way. I want him to stand out in the crowd with distinction, memorable and worthy of long-term respect and admiration. I want his legacy to mean something. Sorry I'm so long with this. Just had to vent!
I personally diddnt like Gnt. In terms of the over the top Glam. Not to mention the stupid continuing kissing Tommy. Toh tour far better. Adam looks so much better without all the makeup. I prefer this era but thats just me.
To be honest, as much as I loved GNT, I could have done without all the Tommy kissing, too, but the point of my post is that the GNT had a certain unabashed edge, a rawness, that I do miss. I certainly don't want Adam to become generic, with no surprises, no grit. I do love his new look and stage persona. But maybe that's partly because I've been a fan since Day One and I've followed him through each phase right up to now. People brand new to Adam only see him as he is now. I want them to be blown away by him as I was, not just nicely satisfied. He's far more than a "nice guy" with a "nice voice." I hope he can keep people excited, reinventing himself, keeping it fresh, keeping us wanting more.

I still get goosebumps when I watch the opening moments of Q+AL at the EMA'S. The sound was so rich and powerful I thought there was an orchestra. Unlike some of you, Queen and David Bowie were not part of my music. I was more into Neil Diamond, Carly Simon, Kris Kristofferson, etc. So, I was blown away by Queen at the EMA'S and Adam was wonderful. He wasn't the least bit shy with his huge vocals and he pranced around the stage like he owned it. WOW what a show. I still watch it regularly.
I felt bad for Adele.
I really wish we had a good video of Adam's performance at Clive Davis' party. I'm thankful for the periscope, but I want more!!!

Well from Adams pov. He may not feel the need to sing high or blow ppl away. As hes established now. Has no point to proove. Besides if a new fan discovers him. They CAN always go on yt or something check. His past stuff.

I prefer this era but thats just me. I dont think Adams necessarily lost alot of edge. Just hes evolved. He wore edgy outfits as a way of a mask. I just think hes over it lol. And has outgrown that time. The key is fans to adapt with him. Thank goodness he has evolved. I too prefer this era.

Well the discussion today about Adam and what he is, was, or isn't just made me think of Ricky Nelson's Garden Party. Adam..you can't please everyone so you got to please yourself. You go Adam...keep evolving...be whoever you want to be and any given time...please yourself. I'll be there for the ride.
