there were 6 comments..5 very positive and this negative one..so sad that there are people that feel this way I loved Adam while on American Idol. And I don't care that he's gay or not. But I for one was turned off by the clown-like dress-up glitter and drag he seems to portray 24/7. I would have bought his album had it been from a clean cut young man with a great voice. But Rocky Horror is not something I care about as I live in the real world. He should save the outlandish flaming stuff for when he's singing in gay bars. Give us the good-looking gorgeous young man we fell in love with! Tone it down, and maybe you'll get your audience back Adam! Or I should say "tone it down, and maybe you'll get an audience of people OTHER than gay men". Full disclosure: that pissed me off. This is my response: Whoa. That is an incredibly offensive comment, Cindy. So basically you're saying, "Adam, compromise your artistic integrity to kowtow to the homophobic masses that cannot process anything different than our narrow-minded view of the world." That is the height of prejudicial egotism. Why in the world do you expect ANYONE to sublimate who they are to fit into a box that your prejudice created? I could so easily say, "Prince is a great musician, but he really needs not to be so black and sexualized." And Prince would have every right to tell me to GTFO. And deservedly so. Maybe YOU need to see about changing. Adam is doing just great and his fans love him and respect his instincts. He pushes the envelope (as all legitimate artists should), but he is incredibly sweet, articulate, beautiful and knowledgeable about music. That rock you're living under must be getting heavy. Throw it off!! It's much more fun on this side. ETA: Sorry, but I've been at the end of a long work cycle and I just have no tolerance for this kind of thinking anymore. Sometimes I can let it go, but others just fry my brain. [/quote] Damn, Susie, that was good. I hope I never piss you off! I am just bolding because the quoting seems to have gone haywire!

SCROLL ALERT ... So this is a thought piece and ultimately about Adam but maybe not right off. So I must think that this is sort of where Adam has been the last many years and I never really understood that until I attended this concert. To me, pre-Idol Adam was primarily theater and Upright Cabaret Adam with a little bit of rock thrown in as evidenced by Citizen Vein and Zodiac. But now I can definitely see the pre-celebrity Adam amongst the attendees at this concert because the mood was upbeat and fun and dare I say it, gay in perhaps the truest sense of the word. We know that he likes Europop because even when he talks about the Aftermath remix he says that dance-pop is how he heard it in this head. But this music, as fun as it is, does not do justice to a glorious voice and he knows it. He is anachronistic in his own environment.
What an interesting observation! I hadn't thought of that before-"anachronistic in his own environment." I do think he's starting to figure out how he wants to balance his talent vs. what he listens to. It will be interesting to hear what he does. And now I really am off to bitch at ES.

Q3 - this is actually the lowest the DVD/CD has been on Amazon since it became available I think it peaked around #15 in music (not sure exactly which number = didn't watch it that closely - just a couple times per day) and has been slowly moving down (I assume most of us fans that know about it have already pre-ordered) (I think it became available on Amazon on the 11th since that is the date on my order, so it was over #100 for about a week) I've watched it climb :-[ and the peak was 11. I was hoping it will reach 10 and be featured on the music main page with the top 10.

Hmmm, interesting, Linda. And it does hinge on the issue Adam has had from the beginning – the backlash from the gay contingent (ironic how our other discussion, based on the OMG! article, is the polar opposite), but he does face a huge backlash in ***GENERALIZING*** gay men tend to idolize women. From my observation, they do not know how to process Adam. From Jacob's articles and other posts from gay men during the AI8 cycle, I have read and heard comments that gay men love Kris and are freaked out by Adam. Lame. Completely lame. The fact that Adam has been walking a tightrope from the beginning is a testament to his talent and ability. I have been thinking about this off and on all day and will continue to ponder. You definitely have a point because I have previously wondered why an apparent lack of support from his own community, within reason of course. I don't feel that I need to like a performer simply because they are older and female and I don't think gay men need to like Adam for the same reason. It is possible that he doesn't really need that support, after all last night's concert was not sold out despite the low ticket prices. But he might miss it and be a little puzzled because when he looks out at the audience he does not see himself there. He might ask himself, "Am I giving a concert that I would like to go to with my friends? How do I resolve the music I like to sing with the music I like to hear?" These are pretty basic questions because we know he can sing anything. In some ways this genre spanning ability makes the journey more difficult and fraught. Last night's concert just shone a small light on one aspect of his thought process. I now truly feel that when he resolves this, the music will be all his, new, and iconic. How can it not be because no one has faced these types of difficulties before and he is uniquely equipped to give something original to the music world.

It will be interesting to see how he sorts this out. I think right now he is teetering a little bit because he wants to do justice to his talent but he is still a club kid at heart like all those guys at the Robyn concert last night. I personally hope that what he comes up with is a synthesis of the light pop dancey fun I heard last night and the rich dancey sophisticated joy that he is capable of. I can't wait. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, LindaG23!!! Fascinating, and there's so much here to think about. I agree that Adam probably would have been at this concert, if he lived in Austin ) And this is exactly the type of music that he and his friends probably love to listen to, dance to, party to. Based on my purely unscientific study of gay men on Twitter, they love Robyn, P!nk, Gaga... So I can understand that Adam wanted to make the kind of music that he and his friends love. I wonder if he was surprised when he and his album weren't necessarily enthusiastically embraced by a gay male audience. I know he has a lot of gay male fans, but we also know that a LOT of them have responded with ambivalence at best, and outright hostility at worst.

I am wondering why as fans we waste so much energy on people who don't like Adam for whatever reason? Haterz gonna hate, homophobic or not, and that won't stop my enjoyment of the music. I am not gonna waste my time arguing with other people to see things my way. I may have my own ideas on why things are how they are and my own gripes but I am not going out tring to make others see things thru my eyes. It seems so futile and just a way to rile people up(on both sides) that ultimately accomplishes nothing. Maybe I'm wrong, I just hate seeing ppl get all up in arms and upset over random people who are probably not worth their time.
Not trying to knock anyone, I understand if it's something someone feels passionately about, I am just curious as to the reasons people have. Esp because I feel like this fandom in particular feels a need to jump to his "defense" over any little thing.
I guess I just feel like, well, not everyone likes everyone and well.....that's okay. That's life. Focus on the the fact that YOU like it and that's all that matters.
Ok I must be tired because I am getting all *thinky*
BTW Susie, you did make your point very well though. So...two snaps for you guuurl!
