murly -- what you said!! That said, there is a wide spectrum of Christian belief and thought. The part I can't stand, is when people claim that they believe the bible is the literal word of God to deny civil rights to people -- this was used to defend slavery in the US, oppress women and gays, and even to discriminate against Catholics. I think everyone is entitled to their own beliefs but they are not entitle to force them on me or other people. The challenge is that some people belong to religions that believe that God has charged them with spreading the Word of God. I have now learned to respond to the question, "Have you been saved?" with the response, "I'm Jewish, my people wrote the Book." End that conversation in about 4 seconds. On a related topic -- I am pleased that Libertarian-leaning Republicans finally stood up and pledged campaign support for the Republican Senators who supported gay marriage in NY. As long as these right-wing Christians control the money flow to Republican politicians, change will be impossible. Hopefully, more people will understand the need to support open-minded, socially liberal Republicans and reclaim the party of Lincoln. I hyperventalate when I think how self-righteous people can be about their beliefs and how defensive they get when you call them on the selectivity of their stances. I've confronted 3 people who I have considered friends for years about this since I've come to know Adam and his friends. None of them are homophobes, or maybe I'm kidding myself, but how they can not see the hypocrisy of condemning homosexuality yet tolerating other "sins" is mind-bogling. One of them has a (wonderful) Christian daughter who lives with her boyfriend because "they are going to get married anyway and are trying to save money on rent and THEY LOVE ONE ANOTHER." One is the third wife of a "Chrisitan" man who left his ex-wives other than the accepted Biblical reasons condoning divorce. One has had an abortion, because it was inconvenient to have the child, not because she was 16 or had been raped or had a medical condition. Everyone "forgives" them for these departures from the scripture they proclaim so vehemently, but I know for a fact they voted against marriage equality a few years back because homosexuality is a "sin." To me, one of the Seven Deadly Sins should be hypocrisy and another should be judging others. We say it all the time, but I live it every day - Adam has changed my life and my views (or at least the expression of them) in HUGE ways. I don't get strident about it, but I no longer am silent and let things pass. The old saying is so true, if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.! There are days I love and admire that boy so much I could die! Today's one of those days. It started this morning with re-listening to the IGB video. To think he is denied ANYTHING because of his orientation makes me burn. Aspen, I want to marry this post and have its babies. (In a godly way, of course – LOL!) Seriously, you nailed it. I've enjoyed catching up on this discussion and when I was on a long drive through the beautiful rolling hills of Central California I was ruminating on this very issue and it became SO FREAKING CLEAR to me. (Not that it wasn't already ...) The bottom line: As citizens of a democratic society, NO ONE has ANY RIGHT to deny another citizen of the same rights they enjoy. NO ONE. The exceptions are: if you're a minor, you have been judged mentally incompetent or if you are a convicted felon who went through due process (where your rights were adhered to the entire time and you were eventually convicted) and in the event you've agreed to something willingly with your employer, etc. (but you'd just get fired, your rights as a citizen of this country wouldn't be revoked). Why on earth any faction thinks they are entitled to deny another faction their civil rights is unconscionable. There is NO defense for it and it is the height of egoism. As a citizen of the United States (who is not incarcerated or on parole), I can tattoo my entire body in rainbow polka-dots and dye my hair purple, and not a single person has the right to tell me I cannot. How dare anyone consider themselves arbiters of another person's inherent rights. It fries me. And I love that Laura S. letter. I believe it was written originally by a longtime professor at University of Virgina – an icon there, from what I've heard. It was incorporated into a speech by President Bartlet in an episode of "The West Wing." ETA: I see Bridgey was ahead of me. Yay! I was just going to google it. Adam tweet!! Excited for True Blood!!!

LOL The tweet from Daniel Allen was posted over at MJs. Some comments were posted and then the entire group of comments suddenly disappeared. : It's always interesting to watch who the protected one is over there. Is there any other Idol, out of the last 10 seasons, who has had this type of special treatment? Adam gets "special treatment"...only it is for reasons other than protection. Let's leave any discussion of other blogs and forum policies off of this forum. The discussion can do no good and usually just causes angst. Thanks.

I love the NY has made marriage equal. To anyone who says they don't agree I say that's ok then don't you marry a gay person! Problem solved. For those who liked the Dr Laura Letter here it is in video courtesy of The West Wing and Martin Sheen: Heh heh heh. Suck it, beyotch. Aaron Sorkin and Martin Sheen. LOL, Q3, maybe they ARE in the studio together – hence the wacky tweets. You never know ...
