Where I grew up (Pa, Dutch country) it was outen the lights but a nod meant yes and a shake meant no. I grew up hearing "outen the lights" and a lot of other Pennsylvania Dutch expressions. Hadn't thought of that expression for ages.

Does that bug you too. I think it's how people were brought up because I always expect shaking to be side to side like a dog shaking a toy, but so so many people use it for up and down like a dog shaking hands. So I'm in favor of "nodding". All those in favor nod your heads, all against please shake yours. *see if we can get a little action on this topic eh? Hmm, how to tie it to Adam other than this shaking head video which really has him nodding his head, has anyone heard him using either? Exactly. Nodding means yes. Shaking means no. Or I hear a lot of "close the lights" instead of "turn off". Or "wait on line" instead of "in line". I clearly am easily annoyed lol You better not ever go to Quebec or any other French-English Speaking country. Here are some examples of Quebec English. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec_EnglishThe are many regional expressions in English, but if you think about it, turn off the light only make no sense if you use a light switch, we are just used to it. In the Northeast - NY, NJ, CT, or Boston - waiting "on line" and waiting "in line" are both acceptable according to the New York Times. Here's a fun Regional English quiz for the US. Works on me -- which is surprising because I have moved so much. www.nytimes.com/interactive/2013/12/20/sunday-review/dialect-quiz-map.html

I WAS THERE !!!!! And it was the only time I had my picture taken with Adam---right before that show--thanks to my student, Jesse, radio on-air personality here in San Diego.{94.1 FM} who arranged for me to meet Adam. I was so euphoric, I could hardly think straight when I went off to the concert venue with my daughter following my brief encounter with my musical idol. So thank you, bamafan, for posting this concert and allowing me to go down Memory Lane and relive that magical night 3 years ago. I was just going to watch the first song, IIHY, but of course, even though I have a houseful of family visitors from the east coast in my home right now--and I was just going to sneak off for a few minutes--- I couldn't stop watching until the very end. And I don't even care if I was being rude by sequestering myself in the aura of ADAM. Good thing my family loves me---and they pretend to understand......
