I noticed on the soap opera "Days of Our Lives" they introduced their first gay character today. This soap has been on TV for like 40 years and I've never seen them do that before. Baby steps people... WTF??? "Days of Our Lives" hasn't had a gay character this entire time? And we've been kicking ABC's ass for two full years? ABC soaps have had gay/bi/transgendered characters and storylines dating back YEARS. Bianca (Eric Kane's daughter) came out probably eight years ago. (Correction: looked it up; 11 years ago.) That later segued into a storyline about a transgendered rock star (he was already famous, but could no longer endure living as a man and he began to transition – it was handled very well, actually), then there was Fish and Kyle ("One Life to Live") had the first daytime M/M love scene, including kiss, two years ago, but there have been minor storylines with gay characters on soaps for years on "As the World Turns" (CBS) and I'm sure "General Hospital," but I'm drawing a blank. Wow that blows me away that Days hasn't had a gay character all this time ... Just googled Bianca Montgomery's character. From the Wiki: Outside of fiction, Bianca has emerged as a gay icon within the LGBT community.[9] Newspapers such as The New York Times cite her as the first lead character on a major daytime drama to be a lesbian,[10] and The Advocate calls her "the most famous gay soap role of all time".[11] She has been the subject and study of various academic works, said to have inspired soap opera writers to begin with the scripting of sexual identities of tortured teen characters,[12] and is a show heroine.[10][13] Under Riegel's portrayal, her popularity has been cited as groundbreaking. Her character was written as gay in 2000. Eleven years later, NBC? C'mon. Chunkey: WORD.

Yeah Kesha's song wasn't really an empowerment anthem, gay or otherwise, even though she said it was. I think one of the things that I love the most about is, that he is an obviously out and proud gay man, but he doesn't feel the need to stand on his soapbox all the time yelling it from the rooftops, nor does he goes ahead and try to tone down all the OTT makeup, and clothes, and all the things that are "stereotypically" gay just to fit in better with people ideals of how he suppose to be. Love the fact that he is just..who he is, his own individual. ETA: I don't know, I guess I just want an universal empowerment song from Adam, because I'm just thinking of how powerful he made these that he haven't wrote, and feeling how much more meaning it'll have and more powerful it'll be if he had a part in writing it. When I listened to the acoustic Aftermath (my favorite version of that song) I applied it to some stuff I was going through and found it empowering (and I am a straight woman (as far as I know) so maybe empowerment is in the ear of the listener ? 8-)Yeah, I can see that. That makes sense. I just want him to have something that tells something really vulnerable and meaningful to him, whereas it's more potent cause it's coming from a deep and personal place.

Chiming in on the empowerment issue and "gay" songs. All along Adam has championed the idea that we are more the same than we are different, and if we share our commonalities of emotions and experiences we will make much more progress than if we put ourselves in boxes. I know he sees his music as a powerful catalyst to bringing people together. Therefore, I do not envision him writing a gay anthem.
I anticipate Adam's lyrics on some of #2's songs to be more vulnerable, more emotional, touching on themes that many people go thru in their lives. Since he said it might be a little "darker", I project that they might not all have the "happy ending" "positive outcome" that he has been drawn to in the past (even Soaked, tho' it is about being devastated and drunk has that positive message that you will be okay). He will probably balance that with some full out party/celebration/ain't life a kick tracks.
JMO.
