Chunkeymonkey said: Interesting, rihannasu, that many who are feigning total investment are actually running a game. That actually makes more sense then so many people being collectively delusional. I am assuming you are talking about shipping? Because I have to say, not naming names, but I know ALOT of people who are DEAD srs about shipping. Like, not as HAHA or for fun or with a wink and a smile but, like, THEY KNOW what they know IS REAL like they know the sky is blue. I mean, they are literally biding their time until the truth is revealed, whoever it is they are shipping with Adam. Just saying that there are diff levels of shipping and some take it waaaaaaaay srs. Not my style obv but to each their own I suppose. Life is too short to not have interests I guess LOL. Oh believe me, I DO believe there are shippers/tinhatters out there that absolutely believe. Isn't the Kradam community still quite active? But I thought a lot of what Rhiannasu said made sense too. I was thinking of how far some people will go to get a reaction. LexieLambert? There's a thin line 'tween the dark side and the light side ...

[ This and your previous post were very enlightening. I never would have ever shipped Kirk/Spock. Per your previous post, most shippers are playing and there is a small minority that are delusional. That is to be expected. We have spoken about the double standard on female kissing and it acceptance especially as it relates to the AMA firestorm, however, it would seem that slash/fanfic has been around for a while. It has just been underground. Lately, fanfic is surfacing and has less of a taboo. In the MTV 10@10 today, I believe the one of the guys that was featured before Adam is a dominate part in fanfic. Yes, Jensen Ackles of Supernatural. There is a very passionate fan community about his character and his brothers character and they get shipped a lot. I think they are "in" on the joke though because they do things to play with the fans within the show from what I've gathered reading things within the ONTD community (they love Supernatural there). ChunkyI backed away from a community because of the serious business tinhatting/shipping that went on there. They wouldn't hear of any talk of their fantasy relationship not being real and at first I thought they were joking but then I realized how serious they were and I was like whoa... really? It kind of scared me out of my hardcore shipping phase honestly. But do you know any of these people outside of the online community? The reason I ask is that I know for a fact that some of the online communities are set up as basically a fantasy world where reality is not allowed to exist. You do not break character within the community. So anyone who only knows those people through that community will never know that it is fake. If you do know the people in real life and they act that way that is a different story. Many of the live journal communities especially however are actually set up as basically a role playing environment in that your online persona in those communities is not real. My daughter has actually been a member of communities like this where real conversation only happens in email or private message and everything in the community is in essence role-play. Even if the community is open to all there can be in groups who only break character in private communication within their group and love to freak out the outsiders. ontd_ai has always struck me as that kind of group. There are cliques and subgroups there who play all sorts of weird games with casual posters.

All the examples you all are using for shipping are fictional characters, like Kirk and Mr Spock. Is shipping of real life people as common?

I think they are...well the ones I know who tinhat it are. I mean hey, my community was originally built on tinhatting that for fun and lolz and then it just got all.....well.....too much. LOL. I am not sure how active they are since most of the hardcore ones aren't active on our site anymore, mostly on twitter and whereever else they flocked too, but the ones I still am in touch with still ship it....I'm sure some more than others. Frankly it's all a big cover until Adamillionaire finally comes out to the press.

Between you and seoulmate, if I keep trying I will know how to post a pic sometime during the next century :( Jeez, I usually catch on much quicker than this. I just want to curse, scream & throw this dang computer in the pool! Okay, third option is NEVER going to happen, I have to have my computer to support my damn addiction! I will figure it out eventually, heck, I bought a GPS for my car so when I am in LA I can find my way around. That being said, if anyone who lives in LA sees a blue Lexus or green Z3 BMW crazily changing lanes, stay far, far away, it will be Cayman trying to read her GPS! : Mika, are you on tonight? Where else could you be on a Saturday night? Okay, maybe out with your other friends. I can't figure out how to post a picture either. I was thinking maybe there could be a "how to" thread with step by step instructions for posting pix and vids. That's probably in the works. We had one on PF and a practice thread, which was great. With this forum, if you have a pic that is a .jpeg, all you have to do is copy an paste the URL inside the box. Highlight it and hit the little picture icon that is four boxes from the left on the bottom row. TwitPics are a bit of a pain. To my knowledge, you still have to treat them like the old Atop pics – either right-click save (PC) or drag to desktop or Documents (Mac) then upload to Photobucket or similar photo sharing site. Once you have done that, you can click on image and get a number of options. I use the option; it copies automatically. Then you just need to drop it in the box here. The IMG code is already there. If you use the Direct Link, you just need to do the Highlight > pic icon thing again; it just puts the [/ IMG] codes in for you. Q3 comment: Here you go.... Practice thread: adamtopia.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=announcement&thread=43

Old Adam topic,....
Since news has been slow, I finally got around to reading the "Hunger Games Trilogy". It was a series of books that Adam was reading on the tour. From comments months ago that sort of put it in the same vein as the Twilight series, I wasn't too interested. I started reading on Thursday night and I am just about finished with the final book. It was a good read. The first book made me think of an AI competition with of course instead of singing the best the winner was the one who didn't die.
I checked out the book recommedations on the old Adamtopia site. At first glance, they seem pretty deep. I love to read, but must of my reading is horror, fantasy, mystery, sci-fi, escapsims, etc.
Let me know when we bring the reading recommenation thread over here. I would like to add some recommendations and I would also love to have some more recommendations from the group. I think we are going to have a lot of time on our hands for things that are other than Adam stanning.

Isn't fan fic just porn with a fancy name? There is some very incredibly well written fan fic that is not sexual. Usually called Gen fic. For instance in "The Sentinel" fandom there are entire series' of incredible fiction that are based around a very strong brotherly love relationship between the main characters. There were several seasons worth of virtual episodes that were basically a continuation of the series in written form after it ended. Many different authors contributed and story lengths were restricted to what could be considered a regular episode of the show. Also the level of fan art we see here in Adam land is not unusual either. Fan art has been a strong and thriving community for a long time and many well known artists started out in fan art. For instance the famous Fantasy artist "Boris" started out doing fan art just as many of the popular fantasy authors started out writing fanfiction in fan magazines (fanzines) and newsletters.
