Wonder if Adam will head to London next week as well. Also wonder if the outfits are ready, the new songs selected and pre-rehearsed, etc. Skewing towards "vintage Americana Queen"....maybe we'll get Jailhouse Rock...lol. He seemed very "relaxed" yesterday (thanks to sweet Pharaoh and the vape pen).....so guess he's "got this". First shows aren't technically the best, like in Chicago in 2014....but can't wait to see the new set, outfits and setlist, etc in Phoenix. They'll get in the groove quickly and have it down to a science by the end of the US tour. Then, I bet they mix some things up again for the UK and EU....replacing the vintage Americana influence, etc. I don't think "Americana Queen" means JHR, as I have seen speculated on twitter. I think it means "all the hits, plus a few surprises." No matter how many times Dr May has said "big changes" there has never been more than 3-4 songs. I expect the hits, plus a few new ones (3) and the big change to be the staging and graphics.

I agree....don't expect more than 3ish new songs and that might include something new from Brian or Roger. I'd like to see Brian play and sing "Sleeping on the Sidewalk"....it's kinda vintage Americana/bluesy and fun. Wonder if we might get Your My Best Friend...nice song, but I'd rather have a different new one. I want something sexy like Dragon Attack...Get Down Make Love would do nicely..... :D ( I'll be pissed if they add that one for the UK/EU leg)

Revisiting the Richard Rushfield/Idol story from last night... We may not know Richard's sources, or even if he still has access to inside information, but I wouldn't be too quick to discount what he's saying. It seems to align with the original reporting of how casting the show would be handled, i.e. ABC was looking to reduce the sky-high salaries that made the original Idol too cost-prohibitive to continue, despite ratings that would have been considered decent or better for most shows. I distinctly remember reading that it was likely Ryan, if he returned, would wind up with a salary below the $15 million he was earning by the time Idol went off the air. And maybe Ryan's attachment to Idol was strong enough that he would have gone along with that...if ABC/Fremantle didn't just demonstrate that they were perfectly willing to break the bank with Katy. Okay, it isn't as if Ryan isn't already richer than God, so he doesn't ~need the money, but he also doesn't need the job, especially if it will entail cross-country travel on a weekly basis (by all indications, it appears Idol is going to be taped in Los Angeles). I could definitely see Ryan walking away if Idol's offer to him is significantly lower than what Katy is earning. Maybe they can make it up by giving him a piece of the show along with a salary, I don't know. As for Adam, I don't think we can draw any conclusions about the likelihood of him joining the judging panel by his public statements. Whether he's in talks or whether he isn't, he's going to be noncommittal in what he says to the press, because, frankly, the speculation is good for him. I'm sure he'd like it to continue, even if he knows for sure if he has the job nor not. As for hosting, yes, Adam has wit and charm and style and might be great - although the thought of non-Glambert viewers wanting to tune in just to see what he's wearing strikes me as more fandom fantasy than anything - but IMO some people may be fooled by how easy Ryan makes it look. Hosting a live show like Idol is a huge, very difficult juggling act, especially for someone without a lot of experience doing it. Adam had a taste when he hosted Divas Live, which may have something to do with him immediately discounting the possibility when it was brought up to him. At any rate, it will be interesting to see how all this shakes out, but I doubt I'll be watching Idol v. 2.0 unless Adam is on that TV screen. I am not following the Idol judges drama this go as closely as others -- so please correct me if I missed something or am wrong. I am too overworked in the real world too keep up right now. However, I am acquainted with Richard Rushfield and he has NO inside sources for what he wrote. He rehashed things that were already reported -- most reported as rumors or opinions. If he had any inside sources, he would have had some new info. The rest he stitched together -- like mashing up these two widely reported bits: Katy Perry Katy promoting her upcoming album Witness, dropped by New York's KTU radio on Tuesday (May 23) talking aobut her Idol paycheck -- they asked her how much she is getting paid, "I’m really proud that as a woman I got paid. You know why? I got paid, pretty much, more than any guy that’s been on that show. By the way, I love men. So I’m a paid woman and I’m ready for a beautiful man." TMZ reported it was $25 million on May 22. **** According to TMZ, Ryan made $15 million in his last Idol contract and that is where that came from. Neither ABC nor Freemantle ever said anything about the Idol budget -- the budget comments all are from media/entertainment "experts" or Idol "experts." Most of those reports pre-date ABC's signing of Katy for $25 million. **** I think that Shirley Halperin [Billboard/Variety] has inside sources at both ABC and Core, and I believe at FreemantleMedia. She has been their #1 "go to" reporter for planned leaks of inside info. I do not recall her ever making a big miss related to Idol. Here is what she wrote about Idol and Adam on May 15, 2017: Sources tell Variety that a deal with Ryan Seacrest to return as series host is near completion, and that Trish Kinane is set to return as showrunner. Kinane will executive produce the revival with FremantleMedia North America. It is unclear whether Seacrest or Kinane will be in attendance at Tuesday’s upfront. But if a deal with Seacrest can be wrapped quickly, he would be a likely candidate to make an appearance at the presentation.
Variety has also learned that “Idol” alum Carrie Underwood has held talks with ABC and producers about joining “American Idol” as a judge. In addition, Adam Lambert’s name has been in the mix for a potential role, sources confirm. Reports out of the U.K. claim Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has also been approached for a judge spot, but a representative for the singer tells Variety there’s “absolutely no truth to this.” Ditto, it seems, for reports that Chris Daughtry is coming aboard the panel. An insider says the Season 5 graduate has not been contacted as of yet.
Whoever does end up named judge would potentially sit beside Katy Perry, who is in active discussions to join the show.
Shirley was right on all points so far: Katy is the lead judge, Chris Daughtry and Chris Martin have confirmed they have had no discussions with Idol. Ryan has confirmed that he is in discussion about being host. Ryan and Kinane were not part of the ABC Upfront. ****
What ABC said at the Upfronts May 16, 2017.
In the intro "American Idol will undergo ABC-esque format changes in its midseason reboot on its new network."
Variety summary of Idol part of the 2-hour presentation -- it's accurate, I watched the upfront stream: The “American Idol” deal is still so new ABC didn’t have time to do much other than flash a logo and run some clips carefully edited to remove any sign of a Fox logo. Katy Perry will be the lead judge on “American Idol,” a deal that probably closed with minutes to spare on its announcement. Dungey reiterated her statement about “Idol” being a good fit with ABC because of the “heartfelt, uplifting” stories provided by the contenders.
What ABC and FreemantleMedia have said about Idol since the Upfronts:
[nothing that matters]
**** Finally, Adam specifically said he would do Idol if his schedule allows. He would not added the part about his schedule unless he had some schedule considerations. I think it is a real possibility that the time in not right for Adam in Spring 2018. But I am convinced he will be involved with the show. Shirley said potential role -- that seems to mean not a judge.

Can the show make money, or do you see it as a loss leader? What you can't do is come back as bargain-basement Idol. We're going to make sure the talent is right, and we'll do what we have to [do to] make it bigger and better than ever. We want to use it as an asset base to launch scripted programming, like it did on Fox. If it returns at the levels it left, it's going to do really well for us.

How I imagine Creativesharka is feeling today..... Well deserved. For me there has only been one picture that I found a bit creepy, but in general she has incredible sensibilities for what Adam is about.

Then, I bet they mix some things up again for the UK and EU....replacing the vintage Americana influence, etc. Fingers crossed for "Jailhouse Rock." I have been wanting to see Adam cover this song since 2009. And of all the old American Music Covers, this seems like the most likely song. One other option is that they perform Queen's version of American Rock n' Roll - "Modern Times Rock 'n' Roll" but this seems unlikely because the song is not well known in the US and only US fans over 60-65 are likely to know it. Queen ended their 1974 US shows with an American encore... Jailhouse Rock (Elvis Presley cover) Shake, Rattle and Roll (Big Joe Turner & His Blues Kings cover) Stupid Cupid (Connie Francis cover) Jailhouse Rock (Reprise) The second encore was... Big Spender (Cy Coleman cover) - IMO They will not do this song, very associated with Freddie Modern Times Rock'n'Roll By 1975-1977 they had dropped all the old covers EXCEPT "Jailhouse Rock." When they returned to the US in 1978, "Jailhouse Rock" was gone. *** It is the 40th Anniversary of News of the World. They have already been doing the big tracks from this album -- WATC, WWRY One possible addition, "Sheer Heart Attack" Would not be surprised if they slip in a bit of "Get Down, Make Love" but not the whole song, and def not the lyrics. Brian used it as a lead in to his solo in 1982. Brian could do "It's Late" (performed a lot by Queen) or maybe, but I doubt it, "Sleeping on the Sidewalk" (very rarely performed) Another real longshot choice is "Fight from the Inside" Roger's track on the album -- but never performed by Queen or QAL. My money is on one addition by the whole band of "Sheer Heart Attack." Adam is well suited to the style and the vocals, and it was very popular at US concerts in the 1970's.
I also think they could do "Jailhouse Rock."

I want Adam to sing "I Was Born to Love You" on tour. And I want him to run down into the audience. My DH and I are in the first row in Houston. That is on my bucket list. I want to see him up close and in person. Not much to ask, is it?
