Drive-by commenting: Adele doing country? I can see how rockabilly and bluegrass would appeal to her and go well with her voice, her style of singing is fairly throw-back-y so roots music would be beautiful. I be surprised if she's gonna be busting out very commercial/modern country. (But then again, with A Band Called Perry and Lady Antebellum getting airplay on top 40? Maybe this is another musical division that is breaking down?) I agree strongly with rihannsu, NoAngel, and others. It's important for Adam to be able to talk about his orientation on his terms - and the BTM clearly is intended to do that. Also, the celebration and support of the lgtb media community is probably personally important to him. So I think it's important that the gay media talks about him and his identity as a gay person as well. It's been a long time since I've seen a marginalizing "openly gay" reference to Adam at least in the US/european press, only celebratory ones, so I really feel that we have come a long way. Additional young fans? He has a huge amount already, they just hang out at other Adam online sites that are a more comfortable fit (not here or AO for example). Two thoughts (just IMO): 1) He needs really really really good songs. I may be generalizing, but I find among my friends and younger, they aren't so interested in a great voice regardless of context. They like all kinds of voices from autotuned, to gravel and grit to ethereally beautiful as long as it serves the music. (this goes for any age fan really). 2) For a certain segment of the the under 25's or 35's like tigerlily says, "It's simple-continue to get hits on Pop radio." 3) Tell me what kind of music a young person is listening to, and I'd be willing to make a guess as to why they haven't heard of Adam. Yes, a lot is regional radio airplay. But some is based on indie music snobbery and a rejection of all things idol/middle America. Most college students I know tend to be hipsters into indy music, and if they have heard of Adam, aren't particularly interested in checking him out based on what they currently know about him (former idol). nica575 I remember my ivy league alma mater wanted Mary Chapin Carpenter to play at graduation, as she was an alum, but the student body had almost no country-music listeners so wasn't happy about this at all despite her Grammy awards. I couldn't see the same school having enough Adam fans currently to invite him either. I think all this may change with future albums and tours though. rabbitrabbit - I enjoyed your post. I'd be interested in knowing which boards are populated by the younger people - would love to take a peek and see what they're saying.

Adam has tons of young fans.
It would be easier to post the Adam sites with older fans --- but AdamOfficial, FYE and Idol Forum have loads of young fans. And of course twitter.
ETA: Regarding the college market, it is diverse but the #1 genre is Urban/Hip Hop based on both purchases and broadcast/online audience measurement -- indie or rock is not even close to #1 -- even combined they come in at #4.
The 35% of Americans who listen to Top 40/HAC/AC broadcast radio music regularly, may or may not know Adam but I bet money that half of them know WWFM. And that is very high penetration for a new artist.

The one-off concert he did with Q102 was a belieber crowd and they all danced and jumped to his music. Even the snobby chicks in the stands to the right of him were grooving along. As I stated earlier it may be regional differences on whether or not Adam is known to a young crowd but I think its also a lack of a delivery system aiming towards them. How many kids stay up to watch Leno? How many watch Project Runway or VH1 BTM for that matter? Adam seems to be well-known with older generations but younger ones still focus on Britney, Gaga, Lil Wayne, Kesha, etc, etc, and whoever is the "it" in the mainstream pop music scene. I have no doubt that Adam will get more younger fans its just a matter of time and the right moment.

I only really go in there for numbers, to read Ed's rants, or to check out the impact of a "gate". But they do have an area in the forum for teenberts/youngberts. Hip hop/urban makes sense as #1 for college age (I was referring in my post to the college students I have regular contact with, who are mostly art students, so a subculture of their own and hardly a majority). I'd be really interested to see if Adam records a song that crosses over into the hiphop/urban genre at some point. Although a stretch it seems a closer one than him and country, for example. Is number 2 for college age pop/top 40? What is number 3?

Ha! That would be fantastic! Rabbit, I don't remember Jon Stewart interviewing musicians. Seems it's always actors, authors, politicians. But I think Jon and Adam could have a really good conversation. I love him!

I'm pretty sure Project Runway is popular with college students. The Do Something Awards are specifically aimed at under 25. Adam's mentoring "majors and minors" seems like it would pull in tweens. I have no market knowledge though, so my guess is good as yours about the primary audiences for the late night shows. oops, sorry about spamming...

Just putting out to the universe that for this era, I really really want Adam on SNL and The Colbert Report I'll beg if I have to. COLBERT is my dream AND it will legitimize Adam for my kids+friends... The thing is they do not watch TV on TV, they watch TV on-line by playing the shows they like whenever they have time. The Daily Show and Colbert Report are the two staples! Re college music preferences: I know that my DD was crazy- happy when they had Phish and The Flaming Lips perform on campus. What are these? Rock? Some kind of cultish rock? (I could check YT, but I am scared to look...)
