Adam has tons of young fans. It would be easier to post the Adam sites with older fans --- but AdamOfficial, FYE and Idol Forum have loads of young fans. And of course twitter. ETA: Regarding the college market, it is diverse but the #1 genre is Urban/Hip Hop based on both purchases and broadcast/online audience measurement -- indie or rock is not even close to #1 -- even combined they come in at #4. The 35% of Americans who listen to Top 40/HAC/AC broadcast radio music regularly, may or may not know Adam but I bet money that half of them know WWFM. And that is very high penetration for a new artist. As soon as I posted I was thinking I was probably wrong about AO. I only really go in there for numbers, to read Ed's rants, or to check out the impact of a "gate". But they do have an area in the forum for teenberts/youngberts. Hip hop/urban makes sense as #1 for college age (I was referring in my post to the college students I have regular contact with, who are mostly art students, so a subculture of their own and hardly a majority). I'd be really interested to see if Adam records a song that crosses over into the hiphop/urban genre at some point. Although a stretch it seems a closer one than him and country, for example. Is number 2 for college age pop/top 40? What is number 3? I think it has a lot more to do with the specific academic institution (not so much region as cultural context) what specific students listen to vs. major. #1 Urban/Hip Hop #2 R&B #3 Country #4 Rock/Alt Rock/Indie Rock #5 Pop music But set all of that aside because college age people do not buy much music. Over 50% of music is purchased by people over 45 -- so I am hoping that Adam gets tons of older fans with money. Most of what is played on Top 40 Radio in not classified as Pop music -- but is from other genres. Also the top selling genre is still Rock but that is because there are so many catalog titles that are big sellers and rock -- like the Beatles. Tied with Urban/Hip Hop if you remove the classics. NOTE: Stats are just for the US.

Just putting out to the universe that for this era, I really really want Adam on SNL and The Colbert Report I'll beg if I have to. COLBERT is my dream AND it will legitimize Adam for my kids+friends... The thing is they do not watch TV on TV, they watch TV on-line by playing the shows they like whenever they have time. The Daily Show and Colbert Report are the two staples! Re college music preferences: I know that my DD was crazy- happy when they had Phish and The Flaming Lips perform on campus. What are these? Rock? Some kind of cultish rock? (I could check YT, but I am scared to look...) Phish defy classification -- they play about 20 genres of music. Flaming Lips are usually classified as alt rock and psychedelic rock. But both bands live audiences are pretty old -- lots of people over 40.

Rihannasu, I've always been under the impression that he is adjusting his monitors, not rubbing his ears. He adjusts them constantly. Will watch OOL again, but it looks like he has a volume control on them, because he uses a thumb and index finger to tweak. ETA: I think he is trying to muffle the crowd noise at the beginning of OOL and transitioning from full-band to acoustic. He's done that a lot!!! Always thought it was cuz HE needed to hear what the audience was hearing without having to use those old backward facing speakers! YMMV! but I'm sticking to what makes sense to me!

'cause all this "condescension" towards "certain age" makes no commercial sence at all... ;D obviously that is the reason Adam raised so much more for charity"water than 10 mil bieberlets

Phish I know best as a jam band with a huge cult following for their live shows. What is the breakdown for live show attendance age-wise, since that seems to be where musicians make a lot of their money? Also with the over 45 music buyers in the majority, that's because of piracy correct? A generational difference in consumption habits?

The average age of music buyers has been much older than people think but people under 45 are far more likely to "share" music.

Broke up for short time, but, now they are going strong and are playing a sold out Hollywood Bowl show tomorrow!

You must remember that all the grandmothers with grandchildren have either taken their grandchildren to Adam's concerts or at least bought his albums and sent them as gifts to their grandchildren. Those teenagers are growing up knowing who Adam is and what he sounds like. I get reports all the time about stores they heard his songs in and what radio station played an Adam song. If they love their gramma, they won't forget Adam ever.
The 30 and 40 year old mothers that are fans of Adam are raising all their young children on Adam music. Once these kids are teenagers, you can almost bet that Adam will be one of their favorites. It has only been two years and Adam is an international star. I don't think we will ever have to worry that Adam is going to lose fans. He has nowhere to go but up, up, and up, and I want to live to see it.
