The word is out that our favorite former sometimes-Dallasite George Michael is working on an album collaborating with a specific group of musicians. NME reported that “The singer, who is due to tour the UK in the winter with a 41 piece symphonic orchestra, had previously revealed that his next studio album would be made with a collective of gay artists, in an effort to ‘correct the damage’ his recent behavior had caused in ‘letting young gay kids down.’”

Now I’m a fan of Michael, but you know, I was let down too by his behavior and I KNOW his music. Our 19 year-old intern didn’t know much about Michael post-Faith. Come on, George. Us older fans want some of your attention, too.

ANYWAY, with his new vow to work with “either gay or gay friendly artists – possibly unknown ones,” I wondered who would be a good match. Minus bigger queer stars, I went from mid-range down:

Uh Huh Her — Sort of like the Pet Shop Boys of the lesbian crowd, this duo has cool pop chops and bring their own brand of sexy to match Michael’s. Vocally, he’d probably own them, but altogether, I’d predict a hit.

Big Freedia — I’m not sure if Michael could handle Freedia’s big booty bounce, but it would be fun to see him try to keep up. Michael may be the veteran, but Freedia would shine more.

Adam Lambert — This might be an easy call, but I think these two could be phenomenal together. There are enough similarities and differences and each would boost each other to different levels. Lambert’s big but still not huge so I think he’d fit in fine.

Diamond Rings — I think Michael could win with Diamond Rings writing his songs. It would bring him to an edgier level. Michael could use that without going overboard and Diamond Rings would know how to do that.

Sia — As much as I’d want to say yes to this, I think any collab between them would be a little odd. He’s too polished, she’s too eclectic, but vocally, they could be nice together.

That’s just what I think. Who would you pick?

And an OT random question about same-sex marriage in America... Do the same-sex folks who are now getting legally married in NY get the exact same marriage benefits as opposite-sex couples? I assumed they can, but a friend of mine thinks they don't. Any of our New Yorkers know?

seoulmate, I'm no expert, but my understanding is as follows:
Since the right to marry in NY is a state law, they get the same marriage rights and benefits granted by NY state to opposite-sex couples.
Additional marriage rights and benefits provided by federal law (things having to do with federal taxes and inheritance laws, and probably some other things...) are not granted to same-sex couples as no federal law has been passed legalizing same-sex marriage.
If same-sex couples marry in NY, but then move to another state, most other states will not recognize that they are married, thus won't grant rights and benefits.

Retailers were told late Summer -- last week of August or early September. Adam also said late Summer for the single.

I would not make any assumptions based on Cook's timing -- since I have no doubt that the A&R and Promo execs at RCA knew that album and single was DOA before it was released. Also seems like retailers were not surprised by the album's low sales because stock levels were low at the US chains and no international releases.

Similarly, I think Kelly has nothing to do with Adam at all. I expect her single will be pushed to HAC and HAC leaning CHR stations.

IF (and a big IF) Adam's lead single is the Benny Blanco track -- and that is my bet -- then I expect RCA to push it to CHR/Top 40.

My bet is Adam's single or album release is timed to some big event -- a TV performance of the single -- not to any ex-Idol's dates.

My money in on first week of September for single.

The only reason I used Kelly and Cook as examples is, not because they are Idols, but because they are RCA. Also, I am a fan of both, so I know a little about the pattern of their releases. Pretty sure though that RCA followed the same pattern with Avril's single and album release.
I am still going to go with later in Sept. (the 20th ;D ) but will hope for first week in Sept as you said, Q3. Which would mean, we should have an announcement of some dates by the end of next week.

So looks like the consensus here is that Gelly needs to get approval for any future vacations by presenting a plan by which her awesomeness will be in some small way covered by others? How many ATOPS will it take to do this? How big of a research team do we need to substitute for Gelly's instant recall abilities?

I hope she is thoroughly enjoying her vacation cause I think she's going to get chained to ATOP when she gets back. :D :D :D :D
