If Simon's stil with Idol for AI10, I doubt he would let Durbin advanced as well. Simon would say all kind of mean things about him couldn't hold a note .. and way of his mimic and not original. Randy was only saying what's the producer wanted him to say I do not believe James made it to the judges round of AI8 -- so the producers did not pick him. James would have been only 19 years old when he auditioned for AI8. I imagine he got a lot better in the intervening two years. That said, I wonder what Simon would have done with James -- Simon is not really mean to people who have disabilities so he might have been supportive before he voted NO. I have nothing against James but do not see a big recording future for him. And clearly UMG does not see much commercial potential either because they are passing on him. Looks like he's negotiating with Wind Up Records now and I look on Wiki their succesfull clients are rock bands such as Creed, Evanescence, Seether, Finger Eleven and People in Planes. I only knew Creed just coz Kanadie brought up some YT that I remembered I love so much. Here you go again. |

OT - SYTYCD
Just had to double-up on a post. Valilac posted a post-finale interview in the SYTYCD thread in which Nigel said Sasha has been dancing on a twisted ankle for the past 3 weeks.
No complaints, no sympathy stories. Just a lot of class. Just like our guy.

I was digging around to see if there was any info on Adam's "missing" idol performance -- the head to head and came across this very interesting comment from 2009...... "Hmmmmm, I’m beginning to wonder if the reason Nate and Norman/Nick got through was to make Adam seem more tame and perhaps middle of the road…just a thought.  " I really think that there is some merit to that comment. Norman/Nick was so OTT gay that Adam looked like he was Iowa gay. Just a thought since we know that Adam was a producers pick from the start of Idol. [And why wouldn't he be a producer's pick!!] That was always my thought and I may have made similar comments although back then I mostly lurked places. Between Norman/Nick, Nathaniel (over emotional drama queen), and Von Smith I always felt that Adam in comparison came off as less gay and more rocker dude. Adam's style compared to those guys was more rock star and less freak show and I really do think that helped in the beginning. Also his look for top 13 party was pure Anime rather than Emo. The show may have labeled him glam goth/emo but his look was more glam Anime/Manga to me. My daughter who is hugely into Anime was really impressed with his Ring of Fire look and definitely felt it was more of an anime look than anything else. |

Nigel probably feared Sasha would get sympathy votes and might upset his chosen one winning. :( |

Some of the artists signed to "Wind Up" just use them for distribution which goes thru Sony Music Entertainment in the US, Warners in Canada. I do not know what happens in other countries.
Creed funds there own albums. So does Evanescence. Not sure about the others.
James needs someone to fund his album (I think). Elliot Yamin came off of Idol and put together a successful Indie album deal funded by Sony ATV. I think this is still the fastest selling indie album of all time. No one else from Idol has been successful as an indie artist. I wish James the best and hope he has someone really great working the business side for him.
BUT the indie album I want released is Citizen Vein!!!

" Never thought of that ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D .. but my radar did not really work until Adam advanced to Top 13 and in one of the interview he mentioned about screaming girls calling his name and his responds was so.. so.. I was like .. hhhhmmmm... LOL. I've always thought he's a two-way kind of guy coz his private myspace indicated just that It was revealed on AI9 audition by one of the producer that they've paid really close attention to him from the first gate. The message that was passed on was, "watch for this theater kid" or something like that ;D |

James auditioned for Idol in 2008 -- he did not get selected. He was not part of Hollywood Week. Hollywood Week is broadcast and we saw everyone. --- James Durbin told the San Jose Mercury News he auditioned for AI8 but he never said he went to Hollywood week. IF Idol had video of Durbin vs. Lambert from 2009, we would have seen that at some point. Would have been great for ratings. Also, if Adam had met James in 2009, I think one of them would have said it -- probably James. With respect, I disagree. We didn't see all the 147 contestants, in other than in a possible group shot (where they wandered around the stage in wonder). BEfore the live rounds, we saw maybe 50 people altogether. People can, and are, edited completely out in Hollywood week. Remember Lacey Brown from season 9? She advanced in S8 till the final "rooms of doom" round, but for her whole "journey", we se a half a second of her, in the background of the persons being shot. James could have advanced till the second day, even through group rounds, and been completely edited out. I'm not saying that he was, only that it's possible. I also don't think that it's a valid argument to say that if there would have been a "rocker vs. rocker" situation, it would have been televised and because it wasn't shown, it mustn't have happened. It could have, and still not be televised, as it probably wouldn't have sat well in their plot of "Christian values versus new, edgy & scary". I do agree with you that if Adam and James would have met/seen each other during Hollywood (even sitting in the audience, watching as the other contestants perform), they would have probably said something. Or rather, James would have said something. Adam has no reasons for reminiscing who else were there with him before the top 13. |

So nothing will be up for the red carpet until after the event is over. No streaming anywhere. Oh well. Two events coming up and not much flailing here. I think it's because we're all focused on the single release. I am! When oh when? I want it released before I go on vacation or after I come back. Not during! Cause I'm selfish like that. I think lots of us are on vacation as well. Like me, for example, lol. My brother is getting married this evening, but I am still quickly checking the news before all the big events start.  |
