Adam has had a LOT of training. He started voice lessons at the age of 10, and continued all thru his teen years. He continued to work with coaches even as an adult, and still does. He may be singing pop and rock, but his training was that of a classical singer. He studied a variety of styles with different teachers. 

Angelina Kalahari (for newbies, she is a highly regarded opera singer and voice teacher who is also an Adam devotee) has remarked to me many times that his technique is very impressive, and she uses him as a model with her students. She has sung with some of the best in the world, and considers Adam a peer, vocally. One time when I was raving about something phenomenal that he did, her response was "But that's what WE do!", meaning that what he was doing was what she would expect of such a highly trained professional. She has also said that if he had chosen to pursue a career in opera, he would have been a renowned international star. 

How much of what Adam does is God Given Talent? Let's put it this way. God gave him an instrument the equivalent of a Stradivarius violin. He has the raw material to produce gorgeous sound. But, without the excellent training and dedicated study and practice, he would not be able to USE that instrument to execute those amazing sounds.

cassie My husband (who has been singing all his life, on stage and off) has just last year taken up serious vocal lessons. Every time he describes a new technique he learns, or a new way of holding his body, or using his voice I think that yes, I have seen Adam do this too. It is fascinating to follow that journey a bit, gives me a taste of how it must have been for Adam.

Also: my husband was RAVING about the QAL show that he saw. He is/was a bit sceptical of Adam, because he doesn't really like his music and probably also because he doesn't get the obsession (which is fine). But after QAL I overheard him talking to somebody and he was praising Adam, his technique, his interpretation and the fact that he is a 'total vocal show-off' (and my husband added: but if I could sing that well I would totabsolutely do that too). 

Also: I have listened to Bo Rhap in a live version by Freddie again recently, sung at the end of a show. It is a-ma-zing, but you can clearly hear Freddie adjusting his voice, the melody and everything, just to be able to get through the song after having given it his all in the songs before. That is a great technique in itself (because a loooooot of singers nowadays just power through, making it either impossible to listen to because they haven't got the stamina anymore, or they destroy their voice). But it made me realize how amazing it is that Adam just keeps the same intensity and clarity and everything throughout the show, all the way to the end.

We are so lucky to have both these incarnations of Queen.
