17,229,325 views/880,521 twitter followers = 19.6 views per follower I guess this means that on a scale of BSC, we have a long way to go. A YouTube view count is their measure of popularity and no one has ever disclosed how the counter works. It is not total views or view per unique viewer -- but if you view a video 10,000 from the same device, it appears to counts 1 time. YouTube does not disclose there secret formula for calculating view count but there is not doubt that there were not over 400 million unique viewers of that video. There is some speculation that it may count repeat views if a certain amount of time passes but not count immediate replays. Twitter follower counts are also deceptive. Bieber has millions of Twitter followers but not as many as count indicates. Twitter followers are the number of account IDs that are following someone and overstate the number of fans. Plus, both Bieber and Gaga have fans with well over 20 Twitter follow accounts -- in the race to be #1. All you need for a Twitter ID is a free email account and spare time. Same for Adam's Twitter followers -- I follow him 2 times -- once as Quu3 and once as Adamtopia. ETA: Edited for clarity and accuracy. Thanks for clarifying this. Q3, just had a quick question for you. I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I've been thinking about this since the news that Archuleta's been dropped broke. It's been reported that Archuleta had a 3 album deal and that now he's fulfilled it, he wasn't so much dropped as that the contract wasn't re-upped. From what I read, the assumption has been that Adam has a 5 album deal. Do you have any thoughts on this? I in no way believe that Archuleta and Adam are similar, other than both having been runner ups, but it does make me worry a little that labels have such short memories. I'm surprised that Jordin's getting a 3rd album, though I know she has an international presence. And Q3? Thank you SO MUCH for finding another home for us!!! What an incredible amount of work when you're so busy starting another job. I don't know how you do it! I don't post much but believe me, I'm always thankful for you and your insightful comments, and all the other wonderful posters here! Love you all! I haven't finished reading today's thread quite yet. I do have something I want to comment on and this is my opinion as a member, not a mod. It was pretty clear to me when I read yesterday's thread last night that for some people the fan fic conversation was going over like a lead balloon. I'm not a fan fic reader, when I'm in the mood to read I go find more traditional reading material. That being said, I have no problems with that sort of conversation here. It's within the guidlines and obviously of interest to some people. Scroll is my friend. I'm not particularly interested in disecting Adam's personal life but I would never make a post along the lines of..... "You are talking about that again?" I would hope that any topic that relates to Adam is acceptable. [glow=red,2,300]HAPPY BIRTHDAY NEEDACOKE!![/glow] Even though people don't actually make money off fan fic, it does seem to me a little different than so-called shipping. To me, it feels too much like ripping off Adam's (Tommy's, whoever's) image and persona and then manipulating those images and personas in ways that they have no control over. Although I've read some (and some are really hot, frankly), I can't help but think it's somehow not "fair" 'cuz a big part of what makes it hot is that it's "featuring" Adam, Tommy, whoever - and they are the ones who created their own cachet, etc. - the fan fic writers didn't. Which is why it's just a little "squicky" (is that the word?) to me, in a way that "shiipping" - being interested in Adam's love life the way people just are and always have been in interested in stars' love lives - is not as uncomfortable seeming to me. And, then, if those "characters" are being portrayed in ways that Adam, Tommy, whoever might not want to be portrayed . . . ? (And, if it's stuff about fictional characters, doesn't that infringe on the property/intellectual rights of the people who created those characters? Shouldn't writers come up with their own characters? - I'm just thinking/pixilating out loud here - I'm sure all these thoughts have already been expressed/thought through elsewhere.) So, anyway, yeah - I read AND scrolled last night - and now I'm just trying to understand my own feelings about those topics, shipping and fan fic. But shipping is not about being interested in Adam actual real life romances. The origin of shipping IS fan fic and those who are delusional enough to see it as real are just that - delusional. I They are not what shipping is about. I think the problem is that as fan fic communities have become more open people have gotten in on the act who know nothing about it and have co-opted the terms and corrupted them. Many many legitimate authors got their start writing fan fic. It can be about honing your writing chops. When Star Trek novels first started being published many of the authors of those novels came from the ranks of people who had been writing Star Trek stories for years in fanzines and newsletters. |

Truth in advertising. Or truth in the media machine. So, You Tube counts are manufactured or manipulated. Not surprising. I came across this example of crafting or manipulating on my google alert. (Adam was mentioned in some of the comments which triggered it, I guess.) The "new" idol "Adam Lambert" is not exactly the persona that was shown in Idol (surprise, surprise). I love all of these sexy vids being posted today, and even better, I love the fact that I don't have to worry a bit about going down the rabbit hole because I am all caught up at work and home alone. My husband, on location in Boston, decided spontaneously to head to New York this weekend to be with my son at NYU, and these vids are taking my mind off my jealousy- that and the fact that it is a beautiful warm day again here in Southern California.  |

Ok am I the only one who doesn't understand that description a few pages back about the glamtroupe and them looking like people who would drink all the orange juice and put the empty carton back?
