It is the first time we have confirmation that Cuckoo was the single Adam wanted to release and was overruled? I don't remember if he said that in interviews before. It was so long ago LOL. He talked about the pronoun changes many times but that the label changed the single? We discussed it for years in the fandom that Cuckoo should have been released as a single. And after that they insisted on him making a cover album. I'm glad Adam was that brave as to part ways with them. Maybe I'm alone in this, but I hate Cuckoo. Well, not hate exactly. Just find it a bit too corny and don't think it would have worked as a single at all. Trespassing as an album, apart from a few great cuts, has not "aged" well with me. My go-to, at this point, is FYE. Highly controversial statement here, but I don't feel like songwriting is Adam's strength. There are really talented songwriters out--writers,poets--who know how to craft a great song. I actually would rather have Adam leave the writing to others. Don't hate on me!! Adam has a lot of strengths and a lot of talents. But, for me, writing is not one of them. And in retrospect, songs like Cuckoo, Trespassing, Two Fux just make me cringe a little.

I always try to be pretty positive if I post something so I'm sure I'll get blasted for being negative but I've been thinking about the media and Adams songs and comments lately.
Adam is the one who routinely said I don't want it to be all about the gay, but lately it seems like that's really all he wants it to be about. He keeps saying over and over again how he felt so discriminated against for his "kiss" on the AMA's, I was watching them with my small kids and when he thrust that guy's head into his crotch and flipped off the cameras they were mortified as was I. I think he offended people a lot more for that than the kiss, it just so happens that the TV report the next morning showed the blurred kiss but the outrage was over a lot more than that kiss. If I were watching "TV" with my kids and saw a guy grab a woman's head and put it on his crotch I would have been mortified too. I don't feel like he's ever really accepted responsibility for going way too far on that performance and I personally think it's been his biggest obstacle in his "Pop" career, not the fact that he's gay.
I also agree that Cockoo would have been a lousy single. I also think better than I know myself was a lousy single, I hated if I had you. I follow Adam because I loved him on Idol, love him with Queen and really like him as a person. I love some of his introspective beautiful songs like Soaked, Broken Open and Aftermath and I loved The Light, but a lot of his pop music has seemed very bubblegum pop to me and I think he is too good for that crap. I think he can write good lyrics but needs an instrumentalist to put it into music for him since he's not that type of musician. Adam is fantastic on songs like Red House and Bluesy Rock. It hasn't worked for him trying to hit it with the young 18 year-old pop crowd so I'd much rather see him write and sing Quality Music that showcases his real talent. There I said it, don't hate me.

Lol, we're all so different, but I loved Cuckoo....so, so catchy. Of course, I never listen to radio, so I don't really care whether a song is radio friendly or not. I just know what I enjoy listening to. Love Naked Love also.
Think GT and TP are the most boring songs of his, regularly skip over Lucy and Rumors altogether.
Favorite album is FYE, by a mile.

Regarding the "gay", I'm not so sure that it's what Adam wants to talk about all the time....I get the feeling that it's a shift in strategy...the embracing of Adam as a pioneer. I just get the feeling that it's a deliberate thing, not necessarily by Adam. Maybe a strategy from his people?
I don't know if I'm making myself clear, but I think it's very, very deliberate. And that's not really a bad thing. The acceptance of gay people in the music industry has maybe gotten better in the last 9 years, but it's not like we're "there" yet. Visibility is still vital, and Adam definitely has a huge role in that.

I hope it doesn't become one of those threads where everyone posts the songs they like and those they don't. Our personal tastes have nothing to do with whether a song could become a hit or not.

The truth of the matter is diferent strokes for different folks. I find it amazing that all three of Adam's albums have no fill. Each song is well thought out.. Never let's have a couple of good songs and the rest... well crap! stuffers to fill and sell the albums.. That's why singles seem to be making hay in my opinion. You know what you're getting.

I have very mixed feelings about a lot of things regarding Adam. I love him to bits but I agree his AMA performance was a self inflicted wound that set him back in ways we will never know for sure. I have always felt that had he stood there on stage and belted out a great song that showcased his voice he would have blown the audience away. Instead he actually confronted them which turned them off. I know he said he wanted to shock them in a way that said he'd had enough with the gay gay gay stuff from the media but instead he turned off some of his fans. I have stuck with him because I admire him as a talent and a person besides him being absolutely gorgeous, I just wish he had come off the AMA's with the wind at his sails instead of controversy in his face!!!
ETA: It did get him talked about but it hurt him with radio and TV.

I think the point was that it's basically a crap shoot what makes a hit or not. Not even a really good song is a guarantee that it'll become a hit, because everybody's definition of a "good song" is different.
