I have very mixed feelings about a lot of things regarding Adam. I love him to bits but I agree his AMA performance was a self inflicted wound that set him back in ways we will never know for sure. I have always felt that had he stood there on stage and belted out a great song that showcased his voice he would have blown the audience away. Instead he actually confronted them which turned them off. I know he said he wanted to shock them in a way that said he'd had enough with the gay gay gay stuff from the media but instead he turned off some of his fans. I have stuck with him because I admire him as a talent and a person besides him being absolutely gorgeous, I just wish he had come off the AMA's with the wind at his sails instead of controversy in his face!!!
ETA: It did get him talked about but it hurt him with radio and TV. I have to take a bit of a break just can't go back o AMAS again. water under the bridge.. Later

Later I'm done with it too but it has been rehashed here today so I had to chime in. It did not stop me from being his fan or following him all these years. I'm here aren't I?

ETA: It did get him talked about but it hurt him with radio and TV. The ridiculous US media reaction to Adam's AMA performance is what got him on media all around the world, including here in the remote Israel, and won him new fans. Those that were turned off by the AMAs don't accept his rebelliousness, so would have been turned off in time anyway. If the last 9 years proved anything, it's that showcasing an amazing voice doesn't get you more fans or more radio play. Being unabashedly yourself is what does it.

I think it's just in Adam's nature to be a rebel, and he's just had to learn the art of compromising in the last 9 years.
That's not really a bad thing....it's the rebels of the world that push change. And what we're hearing in the current interviews is giving Adam his due for being a part of that change.
It's all good, IMO.

I'll lump my responses to a lot of these threads here in one place. I think Cuckoo is a really fun song with a good hook. There, I said it. Adam comes up with good lyrics, but I agree that he seems better in the hands of a good songwriter. Being gay is part of Adam's life every single day. It's natural to him, but it's always "there." It becomes a topic because it's part of him, how he thinks, how he is treated, what people say to him, who he hangs with.
New methods and rules of hearing and buying music not only helps Adam. It helps every other singer, too. Competition could get stiffer as the playing field levels out.
Love those tight fancy pants on Brian. He looks great in them!
Kris Allen will be on the Idols tour? WTF? I forgot there was going to be an Idols tour. I thought they were going to perform in just one place or something. Guess I got that wrong. Well, good for Kris.
A lot is riding on A4. Adam is entering the core period of his career. QAL, for all its immense value, has kept Adam away from producing his own music for long stretches of time. People still have to care about his OWN music. Can he and his label make that happen? Not everyone follows QAL, so there are plenty of people out there who don't have a clue about what Adam has been doing between his own solo albums. He has to appeal to discerning grown-ups who appreciate his voice, enjoy his stage style and appreciate his intelligence and personality. Adam's music is just the tip of the iceberg in being a fan of his, at least it is for me. But his music is his ticket to fame, not just being an interesting, sexy, witty guy. Like I said, a lot of riding on A4. The post-Queen years are looming closer.

I agree so much is riding on A4. I just hope he goes for quality instead of just what he thinks the pop kiddie fans will want, whatever that quality is. If he is really genuine to himself he'll strive for real quality not what he perceives as popular.
I agree the AMA's have been talked to death, the only reason I talked about it today was because it's come up recently again in several interviews and every time a Adam addresses it all he talks about is the kiss and I don't think that is where the damage came from and I think he knows it.
I too think I need to take a break and check back closer to the time he releases new music. Until then I'll enjoy the Queen music.
