Yes, but BB, that story was from last year. It was one of the major stories that brought attention to the issue. Speaking of, I'm watching a documentary on NetFlix right now called "8: the Mormon Proposition" that follows the money trail and calculated campaign about forcing Proposition 8 through. It's heartbreaking and infuriating. movies.nytimes.com/2010/06/18/movies/18eight.htmlOhh - that was just posted on my RL Facebook from a good friend! :/ ETA: Will watch - I have several gay friends who grew up in Mormon homes! Thanks! I remembered reading the article at the time and his name rung a bell. Just finished the movie. You will be appalled. Seriously, everyone should watch. It has so many levels to it and the whole time, I'm thinking how incredibly brave Adam is One of the most chilling parts is when they retell the circumstances of a young man who committed suicide inside the Mormon Church. He was gorgeous and seemingly bright and sweet. A former church member told about how tortured he was as a child: "For every birthday, when he blew out the candles, he wished he would no longer be gay. He would not let himself watch his favorite TV show or go to a birthday party if he was still having 'those feelings.'" He went into the church and shot himself in the mouth and left a computer-generated do not resuscitate order. His parents wrote a book afterward siding with the church. They said the entire family all felt a "profound sense of relief" after their sweet, gorgeous, amazing son committed suicide. They were going to be in the documentary, then backed out.

As a mother I cannot even imagine the brainwashing it would take to feel a sense of relief at the loss of my child. No words.
