different strokes for different folks, I LOVE Adele. PJD and Nica she's said she really loved rap and country music in her early teens, maybe that's why you her the country influence. And if I recall it wasn't modern country music, more folk country. I have to laugh though, this converstation about Adele reminds me of conversations I've had with people who aren't as wild about Adam as I am. It's fascinating how we all love Adam but have really varying likes and dislikes when it comes to other artists. You are so right! I think Jesse J's acoustic "Do It Like a Dude" is a work of art, and I hope to see her in concert one day. She has me. As for Adele, I've been listening to her today and trying, trying, trying to get excited. But she is doing nothing for me. I like the songs and the lyrics - - and she feels the song - - - but, nope. Obviously I'm in a minority! I would like to hear Cassie's take on her technique. That aside, we all know that music is personal. The sound of Adam's voice changed my DNA. I am reconfigured, and will now and forever measure other artists based on the 'visceral reaction' I experience when I hear them sing.

I LOVE Adele (btw thank you lethallyfloral i'm listening to the link now and i love it)but i love so many artist and so many kinds of music and this is what amazes me in Adam's fandom that we come from so many different places in music. I also love this kind of music.: Rammstein is the band that Rivers Cuomo said inspired him to write. The song even though i dont understand shit, the performance and the END of the song is brilliant IMO. Of course some of you will look at me like this AND burrito LOLLLOLLOL

Every time I've listened to Adele, I've thought she reminds me of some other singer...never really followed through on that thought until today--but Amy Winehouse--THAT'S who she reminds me of (voice, I mean.) But Amy has some fun, upbeat songs, too, which I really like even better than this one. Check it our though and see if Adele/Amy don't have similar vocals: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJAfLE39ZZ8To me, Amy's voice does sound similar to Adele's. LOL. Both are "country singers" in my ears.

Adele's voice and look reminds me of Amy's voice and retro look too (a bit cleaner though .

OK - I listened to all 3 Adele songs posted here and Chasing Pavements is the only one I would listen to again. hoopla1 -I was thinking "sounds like Amy Winehouse" from the first and since I don't enjoy Amy's voice that much I guess it isn't surprising I don't like most of this. It is definitely a tone of voice thing - I'm not much of a Joplin fan either - I guess I don't like the raspy thing and prefer clear tones.
I must say that the 2 non-live performances were MUCH better than the live one - there were notes at the beginning of the live performance that felt very off.

She apologized for crying on her fan site. For those that are interested, she's doing a VH1 Acoustic set like Adam did on March 4. And PJD, I never liked Janis Joplin but I like Adele... hmmm And in England Adele is considered a soul singer like Amy, Dusty Springfield, etc. Ok I'm done being OT

Well as Tinafea said different strokes for different folks. I am a huuuuge Joplin fan and as for Amy i think her album is the best of the decade. And i'm glad Adam thinks of it as one of the best of the decade too.

For me Adam's music is always like: Drop whatever you were doing and just listen. He draws me in that strongly. It does not matter whether the song is rock or ballad or pop or whatever, it just has this power. And given that I love that and normally I don't listen to music just as background noise, it suits me just fine to respond and give him my fullest attention. Something really monotonous like a treadmill is fine with his music, but anything more and it gets competitive and Adam tends to win :-)
Then there is coffeehouse/background music. I normally don't have that running at home and if I am in other places and it just happens to play in the background, I ignore it so much that often I have no idea that I even heard it. I think you could play the same song three times in half an hour and there is a chance I would be oblivious to that, that is how much I tune it out.
There is not much in the middle for me. But Adele seems to be in that middle and so she irritates me a bit. Her music is not simple enough to diddle away in the background, but it also does not hold my attention when listening. The melody gets boring quickly for me and the lyrics are too down for me. I think people just have very different expectations on what they want from music and Adam suits me just so much more. But obviously tastes seem to vary.
I like Jessie J much better, she also makes me listen up.

Rolling in the Deep is better. No Country sound there. I like it. Don't love it but like it.
