the funny ears, the sweet eyes, the loving GF, despite his disabilities AND the fact that he needs just a few more years to mature. He's not quite ready, but in time, if he stays focused he will be. so now, he's just a little cringe-worthy on those high notes. I caught a utube of him singing While My Guitar Gently Weeps and it was good. He wasn't trying so hard. You are right, he probably will have better chances of advancing far into the competition if he can create his own unique persona... I made a mistake of reading the comments on other sites ... and many were just nasty against Durbin ... that it called to mind Season 8 when I first posted in AI related blogs just because I cannot stand the attacks on Adam.... I kind of feel for this kid as he is younger than Adam and may not have his support system... but life is full of surprises.... maybe it has a happy ending for him.... just as Life gave us Adam and his music...a great thing I never anticipated I would get from a reality show.... Awww, you just reminded me why I quit watching Idol. I cared too much. I hurt too much. I was soooo invested and the agony of defeat was too much to take. I felt the same way about the Dallas Cowboys and I've managed to overcome that addiction. There's hope for me yet.

I'll answer and see if it shows up. Should I be like Adam and just get the preliminaries out of the way right away? I will be very happy to swim, which is my specialty, in the shallow end with you if it includes what I assume it does. I don't think my type is as specific as Adam's but I find it very hard to believe that even before his fame he had to go home alone very often. I'm sure I will be learning a lot more about him but from the decent number of videos I've seen and the Glam Nation concert I attended in Melbourne, FL he is one hot guy. This is sounding like more and more fun and since I need a little more shallowness in my life bring it on. Okay, lifeguard, looks like you're gonna fit in reeeaaalllyyy well here! Just out of curiosity, since there's AI talk floating around here tonight, did you discover Adam through AI or the AMAs or...when were you deflowered by the boy? (Again, if not too personal...it's just so interesting to hear how others first discovered him.) And, btw, you'll love the pics thread here. I don't think he went home alone unless he chose to either!

Yes, but Adam can sing. This guy does a lot of screeching! You are absolutely right... Adam's vocal prowess is incomparable.... being compared to Adam will just make lesser talents more inferior...

Well I can see it now.. all the comparisons between James and Adam ,as long as James lasts . This maybe a win,win.. It keep Adam's name front and center during this season, people who never heard Adam sing may be now checking him out. During this time ,when he is working on his second album,it can't hurt to have free publicity with millions of idol watchers. "Imitation is the greatest form of flattery," but James can't touch a seasoned pro like Adam, either in vocal quality or charisma. it should be an exciting Idol season.IMO it would be great if Adam fans didn't get pissed off and remained above the fray.

Well it does not look like there is a way to get over The Adam Lambert.... although I am getting over the Lakers....I think....

James does need more time to "ripen." Has a wicked range, but not totally under his control yet. It also doesn't have the depth and richness of tone Adam's does. There is something unpleasantly sharp and brittle to the high notes. To be totally fair, Adam could sound like that too in some of the pre-Idol videos. I can hear the growth in his control, depth and finesse from then til now. If James has the opportunities Adam had throughout his 20's singing many different styles in many different genres and venues, he may also improve. With Tourette's and with Aspergers, tho, he will have a very tough battle. The thing Adam had and has, probably equally or more important than the voice (can't believe I am saying that) is his remarkable people skills, his ability to collaborate harmoniously, his ability to converse with so many different people and code-switch to their style, his ability to read people, his ability to connect with eye contact. All things that are difficult for someone with James' disabilities. I think about SuBo being thrust into the limelight and her inability to cope and connect, despite a voice many love. I don't want to see James crash under the pressure. I wish him well. Just wish everyone would stop comparing him to Adam, favorably or unfavorably, IMO, these comparisons to Adam are just bear baiting. I refuse to believe that people are that tone deaf. I think they just want the Adam fan base to go BSC. When it comes to singing, Adam does not need his fan base to defend him. He's got this. The comparisons are not worthy of a resposnse.

They do not get it -- just because someone can hit high notes doesn't make them Adam.

They just don't hear what my ears hear. Maybe their bodies don't respond (minds out of the gutters, folks) to the tone and the gorgeous harmonics like mine does. Think of all the folks who audition for Idol and THINK they actually have good voices, as do their supporters. Not talking about those who make it on the show. Talking about the train wrecks. There are people who equate Adam with unpleasant screaming. There are people who say he has a voice almost as good as Freddie Mercury when his voice is much better -- at least from a technical or classical perspective. I am convinced it is not just a matter of taste or ego or fan investment. People DO hear things differently. I can only feel sorry for them that they don't experience Adam the way we do when he sings.

That would be my advice for him. better for him not to go there with the comparison.
