The 36-year-old vocalist paid tribute to the Goddess of Pop at the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C., which began streaming live on CBS All Access on Wednesday, performing on a stripped down, emotional rendition of her iconic song. Lambert was introduced, fittingly, by Cher's Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again granddaughter, Amanda Seyfried, before launching into his haunting take on the classic 1998 track off of Cher's Believe album. Led primarily by piano and an orchestral section, Lambert's soaring voice caused Cher to shed a tear, wiping her eye at around the 3-minute mark of the video shared by CBS on YouTube. See it for yourself below!

twitter.com/EW/status/1078389981671055360Entertainment Weekly @ew Turning back time: Adam Lambert performed that 'Believe' cover on American Idol share.ew.com/mpZvaZRwww.youtube.com/watch?v=gaSFAjpvbQoThis weekās #ThrowbackThursday comes with a musical bonus: On Wednesday, CBS aired the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony, including acting Queen frontman Adam Lambert delivering a cover of āBelieveā that moved Cher to tears. But that wasnāt the first time he performed that rendition. The former American Idol contestant sang a slightly tweaked version for Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson, and Kara DioGuardi on the reality talent showās eighth season. Their critiques of that particular performance werenāt aired, as it was during round 3 of the Hollywood auditions, but prior to that, DioGuardi mentioned that he sounded too much like musical theater. Cowell responded well to Lambertās hope of offering a ātwistā to those songs āweāve heard a million times.ā The singer did just that and it worked in his favor, being that he made it on the show. Fast forward to the tail end of 2018 and the same āBelieveā cover, coming from a now more experienced set of vocal cords, stands as an ode to Cherās mighty career. People donāt think he sounds too āmusic theaterā anymore.
