twitter.com/RollingStone/status/1078295450497810437Rolling Stone @rollingstone Watch Cyndi Lauper’s raw cover of Cher’s "If I Could Turn Back Time" at the #KennedyCenterHonors rol.st/2ESxcFX Adam Lambert also contributes inventive rendition of “Believe” at D.C. event Cyndi Lauper and Adam Lambert took turns paying tribute to Cher with covers of “If I Could Turn Back Time,” “Believe” and “I Got You Babe” as part of the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington D.C. The event took place on December 2nd and aired Wednesday the 26th on CBS. ... Lambert joined Lauper for a version of the Sonny & Cher oldie “I Got You Babe” that was similarly faithful to its source material — even the guitar tone closely approximated the retro sound of the original, which reached Number One in the summer of 1965. The two singers traded verses, and as Lauper sang, “when I’m sad, you’re a clown,” Lambert mugged happily for the camera. This time Reba McEntire was spotted singing along. The most surprising Cher tribute was Lambert’s take on “Believe.” Perhaps concerned that the thumping, club-ready, autotune-smeared original would overwhelm an aging Kennedy Center crowd, Lambert re-worked the track as a sparse ballad. A piano sketched out the melody and strings swelled to fill in empty spaces in the track; Lambert added operatic quavers as he sang Cher’s lyrics about persistence in the face of romantic torment.

billboardbiz @billboardbiz Adam Lambert Scorches Kennedy Center Honors With Ballad Version of Cher's 'Believe': Watch blbrd.cm/SYifssIt's hard to out-diva the biggest diva of them all. But Adam Lambert did his best on Wednesday night (Dec. 26) during the broadcast of the 41st annual Kennedy Center Honors on CBS, when he honored Cher, 72, with a stunning ballad version of her biggest hit, "Believe." The Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 1998 dance pop smash with its signature AutoTuned vocals was transformed into an emotional, tear-jerking show-stopper by Lambert, 36, who as backed by a full orchestra for the performance. The song swept to a close with one of Lambert's signature sustained high notes, which seemed to impress the typically unflappable Cher (who appeared to mouth the word "wow"), earning the Queen singer a standing ovation from the packed house. Watch the performance below.

Adam is still hot on Twitter. Over 600 tweets in about 2 hours.... Will shift through those after this. twitter.com/POPSUGAR/status/1078303504794566657POPSUGAR @popsugar Adam Lambert's stripped down cover of "Believe" will give you full body chills. www.popsugar.com/entertainment/Adam-Lambert-Sings-Believe-Kennedy-Center-Honors-Video-45630689?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=post&utm_campaign=frontdoor … Soon after Adam Lambert took the stage at the Kennedy Centre Honours to perform Cher's hit "Believe," the audience found themselves tearing up — including Cher herself. The the 41st annual event, which also saw Kelly Clarkson performing a cover of mother-in-law Reba's "Fancy," drew a star-studded crowd featuring the likes of Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda, Kristin Chenoweth, Amanda Seyfried, Whoopi Goldberg, and Lady Antebellum, among others. It's safe to say that all of them got a few rounds of full-body chills after Lambert started belting out the iconic 1998 track, which he stripped down and gave an emotional spin. By the end of his performance, the camera panned up to catch the 72-year-old superstar wiping tears from her eyes (coincidentally, I was also wiping a few from my own). Watch the jaw-dropping moment above, and then if you still can't get enough Cher, check out all the reasons why you should go see The Cher Show on Broadway.

I was left speechless by Adam's incredible performance. I've used up all the superlatives.
The incredible reaction to Adam's performance is proof of the value of getting a major-event broadcast TV gig that is seen by millions. It's likely that both the live audience that home viewers contained people who had never seen Adam perform or who hadn't seen him in years. Probably others had never heard of him. This show was a major coup for Adam. There were some REALLY major bigwigs in that audience. They were lucky to see a real master at work.

About the blocking of the video. I can't imagine Cher being the one who would object this. shoshanna stone @shoshannastone We have asked. Sometimes there are legal reasons. I don’t think, it’s Cher. I tried to look at the numbers of the other official videos on the CBS channel. I can’t even see them listed. The newest, that I can access are from three months ago from some TV series. It looks like CBS has most of its videos geoblocked in general.
