Ok, now I don't feel so bad...I wasn't born until '59 and lived in Germany until '72. The Elvis heyday passed me right by lol. I do recognize the melody though, now that I listen to it. Not sure why, but I just never found Elvis particularly sexy, or found his voice that amazing. I do, however, appreciate his impact on the world of music. Same goes for the Beatles. I was born a few years after Elvis had died. So I can only quote, what my mom -a huge Elvis fan from Germany- told me a few months ago: „Elvis was never that big in Germany.“ I couldn’t believe it and looked up the numbers. And she‘s right. So, you didn’t miss the hype. It wasn’t there. My mom told me, that she was pretty alone and not hip with her love for Elvis in school (she was born in ˋ49). I was born in 49 too! I always loved Elvis. He was a sweet, southern boy who loved gospel music like I did. I watched every one of his yes...cheesy movies. So I grew up with him and he was definitely the "thang" around here. Loved touring Graceland back when Adam did the Idol's tour...the day after Adam toured it. All the many, many gold records, awards, clothes, etc. He was huge in the US...I mean he was The King of Rock and Roll! Found it interesting that the only Grammys he ever won were for his gospel albums. He loved that music most of all.

I am very excited that Adam is part of the Elvis special, but wish I could have chosen the songs (yes plural) he would sing, Blue Suede Shoes not one of my favs. I was a huge Elvis fan because I lived with my grandma as a teen and we loved him together. I even saw Elvis live when I was a teen - it was 1976 and Elvis wasn't in very good shape, and I was in nosebleed section but it was still awesome!
Blue Suede Shoes doesn't show off Adam's abilities but I know he will do a fabulous job with it. Yes, I'm jealous that others get to sing some favorite songs of mine. Some that would really showcase Adam's talent with interpretation and his glorious voice.
Also thrilled that Variety put Adam's name in the tag that is being picked up by many sources - there are lots of big stars in the show!
Someone mentioned Neil (Queen bassist) and I wanted to share that I once or twice got to speak with him before a QAL show and he was so very complimentary to Adam!
Regarding the Bohemian Rhapsody movie, also want to share my opinion as I saw both Star is Born and BR (twice) - acting was really good in both of them, but Rami deserved his globe over Bradley imo. What I loved (and maybe GG voters did too) about BR was that it was just a "feel good" movie - even with the tragedy of Freddie's death, the movie didn't feel sad and somber like Star is Born did, especially at the end of each. I think BR did a phenomenal job of celebrating Freddie, Queen and the music - they didn't shy away from the difficulties that Freddie or the band had, but didn't dwell on them. At the end of BR, people stood up clapping unlike Star is Born. I went again because that feeling was far superior to me and I wanted to experience it again - after a Star is Born, just sadness (and I also kept comparing to Barbra Streisand unfortunately).

I think Adam got Blue Suede Shoes BECAUSE he is one of the few singers who could make that song exciting. There really isn't much there to work with but it will be interesting to see his take on it. As far as A Star Is Born goes...my age must be showing because for me, the Judy Garland version will always be the pinnacle for me.

And with my mom being a big fan, I simply thought, it must have been the same over here. We had watched Elvis‘ concert in Hawaii (after I had showed her a few of Adam’s performances and Mom found out, that one can watch Elvis videos on the Smart TV as well. ). I found it rather boring, but Mom told be, it had been his first concert after a long while. And I noticed, that she had been right with her observation, that Adam was often wearing very similar clothes to Elvis for his idol performances. My mom‘s older sister had been married to an US-veteran and had lived in the States. She always sent Elvis‘ newest shellack single to my mom in West-Berlin. She is still a proud owner of every one of them.
