autostraddleautostraddle by SusieFierce Southwest Kicks Leisha Hailey Off Plane For Kissing Her Girlfriend, Starts Internet Sh*tstorm www.autostraddle.com/southwest-kicks-leisha-hailey-off-plane-112322/2 of Adam's tweets are used in the story. An interesting excerpt: It’s ultimately unlikely that any of this is coming from the top. Southwest is the official airline of Glaad and sponsors many of its ceremonies and initiatives, such as the Media Awards in Advertising, and the company earned a 95 on The HRC Equality Index. Southwest even has an entire area of its website dedicated to its involvement with the GLBT community – by all popular accounts, at a corporate level Southwest really loves gay people.
But who is empowering employees to make value judgments about their customers? Why is Southwest defending their flight attendant’s actions when it so values diversity and GLBT outreach?

Yup, I assume that's what he meant. I am not sure I agree with him re the "it's not hard" statement... perhaps he was trying to be super inspirational, not sure it worked though... I need to listen a couple of more times, to understand. It seems to me he talked himself into advising people to move to an area that is gay-friendly - which is of course what he had done...but isn't that exactly the "hard" part? (live in a ghetto to be accepted? - dramatizing here...) As for the "not hard" - I think it relates to him never wanting to be a victim, or be conceived as someone who always complains (which he never does, but that doesn't stop some people from accusing him of doing it). As for the ghetto - I think it just depends how you call it, ghetto or community. I guess most of us try to live in a community that suits us, don't we? I, for one, would never live in an ultra-orthodox community. It would be unbearable! This has probably been said because I am not at the end of the thread, but I think he said it as a response to comfort parents who worry that life for their gay children will too hard for them. I think he just wanted to let parents know that once their children get through those adolescent years, which are tough for everyone but likely to be tougher for those with differences, you can go out in the world and find a whole community of more supportive adults and have a rich, satisfying, fun life.

More from Cam.
UhHuhHerMusicU H H I want to say that we will always stand up to discrimination of any kind. It should not be tolerated. This was so unfortunate! Nuff said 2 hours agoFavoriteRetweetReply
UhHuhHerMusicU H H @southwestair I didn't realize a small peck on the lips is regarded as excessive and never once did your stewardess mention other passengers

"In time we hate that which we often fear". ~William Shakespeare I think that quote is the bottom line to most prejudice. Again the US vs THEM mentality rears its ugly head. I don’t pretend to know the whole story, but I have been the recipient of a few hostile or confused looks over the years being that I’m a long-haired hippie type. Even more amusing is when I’m traveling with my wife. It’s a little like Catherine Zeta Jones walking hand in hand with Joe Perry (except I’m not as good looking). It just does not compute with some people so they get uncomfortable and not liking that, they get hostile.. I think Catherine Zeta-Jones + Joe Perry would be totally hot together, LOL You probably wouldn’t get any resistance from my wife if you traded me in for Joe Perry, and I don’t think Joe would mind either. I guess I’d be the odd man out. But does he make a mean chili and walk the dogs when he’s home? Even I don’t buy that argument so I’ll have to step up my game.

Isn't it interesting when the media makes things up in their headlines? If you read the article, you would have seen this: Just days before Gaga performed at the IHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas, her manager suggested she give away her albums for free. "If it was up to me, I'd give away the next album and put it on every handset that I can put it on, to get that scale," Troy Carter said. "What we're looking to do is not just about selling the CD or the digital file. It's how many people can we get the music to. How many people can experience it? Gaga's manager said this, not her. Plus, he began his statement with " If it was up to me..". Chances are it isn't all up to him! ;D And 5 million in worldwide sales since the end of May?! Gaga is selling almost twice as many albums in other countries than she as in the US! Like we always say- Worldwide sales count also! Money is money!

Thanks, momtomany! Combining the primary goal of helping the Trevor Project with the sentimental goal of having Adam reach the fundraising total of $1Mil is great fun. And, hey, I've used peace&love as a closing line in pretty much all my correspondence for many years, so of course I'm into promoting a peace necklace!
42 years, Awww. Beautiful!
peace&love (and granola, as some of my students used to say...)
