James Durbin and the producers are delusional if they think he's going to come out favorable in a side by side comparison to Adam. That's just career suicide IMO. He's not as handsome, he's not as sweet, he certainly can't sing as well and his fashion choices are to quote someone from another board "like Hot Topic and a dumpster threw up on him"
I don't mind the comparisons though because just like last year when people compared Siobhan, Adam always comes out looking amazing and like the true standout star.
It can only be to Adam's benefit when he is mentioned on Idol and whenever James is compared to Adam, people who might not be as familiar with him will google search him and find all his amazing performances and possibly his interviews and he'll gain new and fresh fans.
I think for now, it's a fair topic of discussion. He compared himself directly with Adam last night and sang one of Adam's most memorable songs on the show. The media will be talking about it so seems logical for us to discuss it here and air our feelings. Perhaps that will help some from feeling the need to comment negatively elsewhere about James and make it seem as if we're worried about him and the comparisons. JMO

We need a palate cleanser........ I love the way Adam comes out of his singing trance at the end of this performance. I love the look on Eber's face after Adam sings. I love Paula's hands waving around in the air. I love pretty much everything about this perfect performance. In the hyperbolic vein of Randy Jackson, LOL, this was one of the best AI moments evaaaaah.

So last night was quite an interesting Twitter night for me. I asked Eber about his record collection and he answered me. Then I was doing some internet browsing when my phone started chirping. Eber was asking me questions. We had a twenty minute conversation. Others joined in. Definitely a cool feeling.
We were talking about Velvet Underground.

SInce I do not follow Idol, can someone please fill me in - from what I understand Durbin is now between the last 24 contestants? And from now on the audience will vote? When Adam was on the show wasn´t there 36 people and then the last 13? I am a bit confused by this voting system. They change it up from year to year. In most seasons, they have picked a top 24 and then audience voting whittles it down week by week to a top 12. I really didn't like the way they did it in Adam's year. They picked a top 36, which they divided into three groups of twelve. Three from each group went through after the viewer vote, and then the judges were going to pick three wild cards to make a top 12, but they decided to add one more wild card and make a top 13. What was unfair about that system was the way only three went through from each group. So if you were a strong singer in a group of strong singers, you might not make it through because there were only three spots open. Conversely, if one group consisted of more than its share of weak singers, a poor singer could get through simply because there wasn't much competition. Of course, there are always going to be unfair aspects to American Idol, so in the end it probably didn't matter. In fact, I know it didn't, because we got Adam that year and that's all that matters!

Good morning. It seems that many of us are watching AI this year. Q3 or mods, can we have an AI thread in the Members Only forum like at Atop1? I want one too! This year the talent seems to be much better than last year. Especially since Adam is not out and about, will give some of us stuff to talk about. Sorry, but I don't really get why some of yall are so down on Idol, if it weren't for Idol, we would never have found Adam. I am not saying there will be anyone new come in to steal Adam's spotlight in our hearts, no way there will ever be another star like Adam. But, AI is entertaining, and it is not the show's fault that Adam didn't win. Just sayin....... ETA: Also, Idol has consistently given Adam mention, promo, and the awesome gig mentoring last year. No matter how great Adam becomes as an international icon, he did get his start at Idol, and he and them will never forget that. mahalia - just want to answer your question about being "down on idol" - for me, this is nothing new. I never bothered to watch it pre-Adam and only caught Adam by accident one evening when I wasn't feeling well and was looking for something "mindless" to have on in the background while reading. Once I saw Adam, I started watching ONLY to see him - I would have the show on, but would be multitasking doing other stuff during the rest of the show. Just stopping to watch Adam's part. I didn't enjoy the rest of it at all and most of the performers made me cringe. I haven't watched the show since then other than when Adam mentored.

Hey guys, tinafea started an AI thread in Members Only. Maybe we should take it there in case we're boring or pissing off any posters not interested.
Q3 comment: If it relates to Adam news --- OK to discuss here. If it is about Idol in general or this season, yes, please us the Idol thread.
Also, if you want to chat, you can use the Chat Room.
