This post is just screaming for an Ad Headline. So you have just been promoted to an Advertising Copywriter! And here’s the best news: if the client (me) decides that your headline is the BEST headline, the client (me) will give you a bonus – a digital copy of Adam Lambert “TBD” due to be released in 2012. Headline entries must be posted in the Adamtopia News Thread any time from 12:00AM 9.27.11 until 11:59PM 9.30.11 -- all times are Adam Time (AT). I will announce the winner in the 10.3.11 News Thread.

The Southwest Incident

Musician and L Word actress Leisha Hailey and her girl friend were kicked off a Southwest flight. Leisha tweeted her side of the story….
"I have been discriminated against by @southwestair. Flt. attendant said that it was a 'family' airline and kissing was not ok. This is an outrage. I demand a public apology by @southwestair and a refund. Hate is not a family value. I will never fly this airline. We were escorted off the plane for getting upset about the issue. @southwestair endorses homophobic employees. No one made her accountable. Since when is showing affection towards someone you love illegal? I want to know what Southwest Airlines considers as 'family'. I know plenty of wonderful same sex families I would like to introduce them to. Boycott @southwestair if you are gay. They don't like us."
And Leisha apparently has “film” of the whole thing…. She tweeted, "Did I mention to @southwestair that I have a lot of their actions recorded on audio and video? RT #boycottSouthwest #discrimination"
A Southwest rep replied to her tweet with “”I’m so sorry! Can you please follow/DM [direct message] me more details so we can get to the bottom of this? Thanks!”

Initial reports indicate that we received several passenger complaints characterizing the behavior as excessive. Our crew, responsible for the comfort of all Customers on board, approached the passengers based solely on behavior and not gender. The conversation escalated to a level that was better resolved on the ground, as opposed to in flight. We regret any circumstance where a passenger does not have a positive experience on Southwest and we are ready to work directly with the passengers involved to offer our heartfelt apologies for falling short of their expectations.

Within 12 hours there were over 350 news stories about the incident.
Many other people commented on the incident. Here is my fav. I think he should run an experiment.

And GLAAD chimed in and actually may be able to do something in this case. There is a strong, long-term relationship between Southwest and GLAAD. Southwest is the official airline of GLAAD and other similar groups, and sponsors many GLAAD events.

My Take on this Mess
Over the next day or so, the facts on this incident will come out. I will reserve judgment until I really have a better idea what happened.
I am confident that the incident occurred. What is not clear is what is Southwest Airlines policy on this matter vs. the actions that were taken.
Southwest Airlines has excellent LBGT policies, supports many LBGT causes and has offered gender neutral "committed partner benefits" for over 10 years.
I will wait and watch what they do? Was a policy violated? Was this a rogue employee? How will they respond?
It is one thing to write checks to support LBGT events, another to really act on those corporate commitments. I'll wait and see, and hope that I am pleasantly surprised.

It all started with a few tweets that there was going to be a D&B remix of Adam’s new single.
What is D&B – here is the Wikipedia definition:
Drum 'n' Bass (D&B, D+B or DnB) is a type of electronic music which emerged in the mid 1990s. The genre is characterized by fast breakbeats (typically between 160–180 bpm, occasional variation is noted in older compositions), with heavy bass and sub-bass lines. Drum and bass began as an offshoot of the United Kingdom rave scene of the very early 1990s. Over the first decade of its existence, the incorporation of elements from various musical genres led to many permutations in its overall style.
