Well Monte didn't elaborate much...it is what it is. But I'm puzzled as to why two artists would sign away their rights to ANY control of songs they wrote - is that normal operating procedure? I can understand with the Take One tracks because they were just studio musicians......but the CV songs? Oh well..... ADAM'S TEASING HIS NEW SINGLE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeee!!!! (edited to add that Lisa Pittman's behaviour soured me on Monte SO MUCH that I can hardly tolerate the man - cue cries of outrage and dead horse gifs) ADAM'S TEASING HIS NEW SINGLE!!!!
An artist signs over limited rights to the songs they write when they record them under a recording contract. So for Adam #2 -- Adam could write and song and he would own the rights to that song. If he records that song under his RCA recording contract, RCA own the master recording and RCA has the right to sell that recording. RCA pays Adam for this right -- and Adam would get royalties. If the label did not have the right to release the material they bought, their investment would be at risk. This is one of the many reasons that it is always best for and artist to have a great relationship with their label. Rights are really complex -- and if you want to know more, here is a great summary I found online: members.nashvillesongwriters.com/photos/Songwriter_Contracts_Seminar_NSAI_TNVLA.pdf

I'm going to buy the "bastard" album unless Adam comes out and says "Do not buy the album." I already have Adam's old music (from Idol) and YouTube, Zodiac, Wicked, Hair, etc. Why shouldn't I buy his other "old" music. How bad can it be. It is Adam. Monte is one of the "good guys" that Adam knows. They have been friends for a long time and Monte has always spoken well of Adam, always calling him "the best singer". Unless Adam has something to say negative about Monte, I am still going to support Monte too. He always seemed to be soothing and above the fray on the tour. I always felt like Adam had confidence in Monte above all others. I could be wrong, but those were the feelings I got from watching those videos, and watching the interaction between the two of them. Okay ladies. Come and get me. I am interested in your thoughts. I think it is up to you whether or not to purchase these songs. I will say that Adam's made it very clear that he doesn't support this project. I don't know how much clearer he needs to be.

Why do peeps keep asking why they would sell the rights to the songs???
My understanding is they just don't have the rights to those recordings of the songs, not the songs themselves. I listened to the snippets. Adams vox on Beg for Mercy are fantastic. Well now see, THAT'S why I was asking....didn't know that. The music industry is confusing to me....I'll try to muddle through, thanks. EDIT : Thanks for the link Q3!

It sounds like a very typical recording contract. Adam does not own the master recordings for FYE, he won't own the master recordings to Adam #2BD The Beatles did not properly protect their rights -- possibly the most famous miss in recorded music. The story is really complex and would never happen in the modern recording industry. Here is the story. www.ptrob.com/Music/Beatles/Song_Rights/song_rights.html

I think Adam has made his feelings on this matter quite clear:
Its NOT what I'm currently working on, nor does it reflect my artistic vision. Some folks will do anything to make a buck. Fuck.
But truthfully, it doesn't matter if he changes his mind or not or if Monte wants us to buy it or if his father or brother or my dead grandfather uses a Oujia board to tell us he wants us to buy it. I'll make up my own mind. And my mind is telling me that I don't want to give any money to a sleazebag like Welsford because it just encourages this behavior. And to be honest, I cannot see why anyone would want to encourage this behavior.

OK so it's up to each of us how we feel about Monte and about the old songs.. Personally I like two of them.. but I can live without them.. so my take will be to let it drop and wait for the new release on RCA. Just saying.

My last comment, I promise ;D
Aside from Adam's negativity on the BFM project, from an ethical standpoint I can't purchase it. If they marketed it as CV, featuring Adam Lambert and quit trying to make it seem like this is his new project, I might consider buying it but under the current circumstances, NO WAY Jose. I will not reward slimy creeps.
