Question: I don't know much (anything) about funk, but is it possible that Adam can do funk and still have his vocals front-and-center? I just keep imagining an avalanche of drum beats and electronic effects burying Adam's wonderful voice. I am not expecting any classic funk track on this album -- prob some funk-electro fusion. But here are a few funk artists whose vocals were often front and center.... James Brown Prince Eddie Kendricks Stevie Wonder Chaka Khan This is a wonderful but odd direction for Adam. I am really intrigued by it. I am hoping for a 21st Century Chaka Khan ----

You're welcome Gelly I'm posting this while listening to OOL on the Flea... and as much as I'm enjoying my little "fling" with Kahn, my heart belongs to AFL.

I am happy about the funk but hope this album will be more eclectic like the first one. Something for everyone! On FYE there were different songs for different moods, and I think that is partly the reason I still play it and like it so much. I LOVE the variety!!!! Mood of the day: Zen I am grabbing that smilie!! And staying in a Zen state until Adam #2 lead singles...... EXPLODES!!!! Regarding Funk and melody ---- Here is Rufus featuring Chaka Kahn And Chaka Kahn "I Feel For You" Both funk -- and vocals are out front. I would love to hear Adam cover "I Feel For You".

Well, if Vintage Trouble is funk, I got a dose of it last nite in Atlanta! They were the first of 2 openers for The Parlotones. I saw a lot of James Brown in Ty Taylor. I'm gonna try and do a little recap of both groups later in the "Other groups" thread. I'm so tired...we didn't get home until 4AM....and the $4.00 martinis and Crown drinks took a toll. lol (I like good deals). Oh, Q3..... While I was standing front row center watching Vintage Trouble, a VT fan came over to me and said excitedly " I recognize you from both Adam Lambert's concerts in Atlanta and Club Nokia in LA and I know who you are...You're Q3 from Mississippi, right?" I laughed and told her no, but I was very flattered to be mistaken for Q3! She seemed embarassed...I told her it was OK, Alabama and Mississippi were kinda interchangeable. I told her that we were friends and you would find it funny. She and her friend were the only 2 there, other than me, who knew of VT. They were planning on going to Knoxville, Nashville, etc...VT groupies. What are the odds of VT (AFL connection) opening for the Parlotones (why I was there)....more on this later in the other thread. But I take it as a compliment that anyone would think that an elegant lady from Alabama was me! Ha! ETA: I love VT but most of their music is soul revival and R&B -- but they mix in a ton of genre. This is a soul song, no funk here: Funk has so many iterations and sub-genre that it is hard to guess what Adam is really working on. Guess I'll just have to be surprised. Here is the original Funk sound -- Little Richard: And a great clip from a PBS Music Special about Funk -- featuring James Brown -- the break down the Funk beat:

I promised to bring over any news from ALF so here is the latest, posted by the moderator Becky. Sorry if it's already been posted: I can't bear to go back through yesterday's thread.
