Re lack of straight male fans:
My small observation is that there are fewer in that category who like/buy pop and dance music in general, or at least don't think it is cool to say so. My nephews and their friends listen to indie stuff, and their dads listen to rock.

Here's a response from @clevvermusic re: whether it's Adam Levine or Adam Lambert at the AMA's this year: well adam levine DEF is, but there's a little rumor about lambert too! fingers crossed, tho he's not on the official listI'm really trying hard to not get too invested in this rumour (I am so sick of being disappointed)....but.....but........EEEEeeeeeeeeeee!! There is no way I'm getting excited about this. Tired of being disappointed too. If it happens (& I don't think it will) I will squee with the best of you!!!!

Oh dammit. The original Moser article was just an on-line blog. Now it made the print edition of our paper (The Morning Call) - complete with photo! Probably because it's a LOCAL freakin' company that is releasing the bastard album! Ugh. At least they make it pretty clear with Adam's quotes that the music is not his new stuff and not his vision, I don't think anyone could read that and not understand that he doesn't support its release. Agreed. If it *has* to be in print, that writeup is about as accurate as can possibly be expected. Que sera sera for this one.

It is unfortunate that they are marketing this in a way that is confusing and makes some people think this is new Adam music -- for about 30 seconds -- but thankfully very, very few people are being fooled. How do you know this? Some people are obviously buying it. How many countries, other than Canada , have any type of advertising? Most fans are not like us. They do not follow Adam on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. There are far more casual fans than hard core fans. There are also music listeners who liked WWFM and/or IIHY, but can't even be classified as casual fans. I'm a Kelly Clarkson casual fan. If I saw an ad on my FB page saying her new single was out, I would immediately go to iTunes and download it. If her "new single" was some odd, aged rock song with horrible production, I would think that must be the direction she is going in. Unless she ended up having a couple of Top 10 radio songs, that convinced me to revisit the idea of checking out her album, I might not ever go further to investigate her new music. Do you not think some people are doing this with the BFM single? I'm sure there were many Canadian casual fans who downloaded this horrible song yesterday, thinking it was Adam's "new single". I wonder what they are thinking now? Why would they only think that BFM is his new single "for 30 seconds"? There was an ad on iTunes, so they bought the new song. Most of them don't belong to ANY type of AI, Adam, or music fan board. Unless they happen to see something on their Yahoo homepage, they have no idea about what is going on in the music world. For every casual fan who downloads BFM, there are probably 2 or 3 others who go and listen to the snippet on iTunes, think the song is terrible and decide to pass on buying the song. Then there are many more general music listeners who go to check out the snippet because they liked a couple of Adam's songs from his last album era. They are expecting WWFM or IIHY and they get an outdated rock song with terrible production. That could mean that many of these music listeners don't take the time to check out THE REAL FIRST SINGLE when it comes out! :( :( We tend to think from our perspective, (in the Adam or AI bubble)and forget that there are casual fans and general music listeners out in the real world who ARE being fooled by this BFM release. >:( >:( >:( I have to agree with Tigerlily here. BG: My dd is a big fan of AL. Her friends all have WWFM and IIHY on their iPods, but did not buy the album. From what I hear, most of the teens my dd knows do not buy albums, just singles. Yesterday, two of my dd's friends texted her to tell her that there was an AL ad on FB and that they had found snippets (I assume on iTunes). Their response was: "WHAT THE HELL was that crap? Ugh." She explained to them that the song was a rip-off of his old stuff and not what he is doing for his new singles or album. They then commiserated on what it's like to have someone screw you over and are now looking forward to his new music again. But how many casual fans like that went, "Ugh" and tuned out because they don't know BFM stands for BowelFrickingMovement Being Laid on Adam? That is why I think it's important that TPTB get out Adam's real single asap.

Re lack of straight male fans: My small observation is that there are fewer in that category who like/buy pop and dance music in general, or at least don't think it is cool to say so. My nephews and their friends listen to indie stuff, and their dads listen to rock. This is so true. One would think that since, Katy Perry is so damn hot, that her shows would be filled with straight males. Nope! Gay males and girls and women. One reviewer said the audience was like one big Bachelorette party!! I have no data to support this opinion, but I would also guess that young, straight music loving males are the bigger "free" downloaders! tigerlily, I agree with your post. These BFM people are so aggressive and underhanded in their marketing, my guess would be that a good amount of casual fans have gotten fooled. I mean, gee, i-Tunes Canada got fooled. That alone speaks volumes! >:(
