50K???? if you ask me - it would be a disaster, from any which POV - my gut and all the education I have from stanning these (almost) 3 years tells me that anything below 150K would be tragic......the hair and the 50K thought together = >:(  You Might want to prepare yourself. j/s 150,000+ is a solid opening week for Kelly. The second (and subsequent) singles will give the album legs through the holiday season and beyond. It seems to be an excellent sign that What Doesn't Kill You has reached the Top 20 on itunes. MKIA is up in the top 10 on iTunes and she has the AMAs coming up. Kelly has had really good promo and she has been knocking her live performances out of the ballpark. Decrease in 1st week sales for Coldplay & Kelly: Coldplay Viva (June 08): 721,000 | Coldplay Mylo: 450,000 | -37.5% decrease Kelly All I Ever (March 09): 255,000 | Kelly Stronger: 165,000 | -35.3% decrease It will all come down to radio singles for Adam on his second album. Plus, we need to take into account that ADAM #2 will be released in February or March. He will also have an international release, like Kelly. Thanks Tigerlily, this is just what I'm saying. Kelly is barely opening up with 150,000, and she is much more known then Adam. I'm thinking if Adam opens up with anything around the vicinity of 100,000, he'll be fine. But like you said, it all comes down to the music, singles, and radio play. |

I do not think that sales are the singular measure of success -- Adam needs a strong opening on Adam #2 -- and he really needs a single that radio adores if he wants to be a real "Pop/Rock Star". He is working with the right people and RCA seems committed to letting him get this album and the singles right. I am confident Adam will have a solid opening but I do not expect him to match the first week of FYE -- more important is that Adam Lambert TBD goes platinum in the US.
The Kelly numbers for this album have nothing to do with album but are a bit of a disappointment. Here are the opening weeks in the US for Kelly....
2003 "Thankful" 297,000 copies55
2004 "Break Away" 250,000 copies
2007 "My December" 291,000 copies
2009 "All I Ever Wanted" 255,000 copies
2011 "Stronger" prediction is 155-165K
ETA: I edited this because I had not checked what the HDD forecast was. This is the one-day forecast and could be off a bit.

Ironic. The thread started this morning with ooo's and aww's because Adam said he adores us. That was followed by and all-day ridicule of him over a frigging haircut. Why? Because we are bored? I understand that everyone has a right to their opinion ..... so I guess this is mine. Adam, you are gorgeous, your haircut means shit. And you will be fabulous looking, articulate and charming , as ever, for your promotion campaign. Thank you Susie and Spenser for your posts, you made better points than I could. So begins the pile-on.

Darn, I knew it, Atop is messing up again, just when Adam is giving Perez a subtle mack down.
Was anyone else having problems with logging on to ATOP just now? It was loading pretty slow for me, for the last few pages.

Okay, I've finally figured out why I'm so drawn to AFL and it's this hair discussion that made me realize it. He's got nerve. He's unafraid. Traits I wish I had but not in this lifetime. I'm not keen on this current hairstyle but I'm keen on his ability to wear it, own it, detractors be damned. That goes for his hair, his makeup, his clothes, his music choices. If we could all be so fearless. Well, maybe not all of us. It takes fearless and fearful, tenors and baritones, blondes and redheads, lefties and righties....uhhh, male and female, Finnish and American...uhh...country and pop...uhhh...you get my drift. And I'm drifting folks, really drifting. Seriously, though, do any of us have his nerve??? Hats off to you if you do. |
