mediaweek March 30, 2020ARIA Chart : Third #1 for The Weeknd + Smith Street, Adam Lambert debut #8 Adam Lambert with Velvet. Australian audiences have long appreciated the work of the former American Idol finalist, but those who didn’t know much about him had the chance to sample his talents during Queen’s recent stadium tour. Velvet is Lambert’s fourth solo set, and for the rest of 2020 he will be juggling both his jobs with solo shows and more touring with Queen. www.mediaweek.com.au/aria-chart-third-1-for-the-weeknd-smith-street-adam-lambert-debut/

IMO Adam is healthy. Adam is talented. Adam is loved. Adam is financially secure.
Velvet is Adam’s best album. Velvet is not Adam’s last album .
Let’s survive first, then we can worry about an album Performance ...

nightowl, thank you so much for interesting perspective on streaming. It's clear that Adam's fan base is fiercely loyal but doesn't grow much. No artist has been able to do "normal" promo in this virus era. Adam is not alone in that. I am happy that despite Adam's pretty non-changing fanbase, he is still able to get his album to do pretty darn well. Lots of artists would kill to get that high, even for a short while.
We stream out of the love for the music and out of loyalty as fans. It's what we do. To stream less because it "doesn't help all that much" would be negating everything that a fan truly is. Supportive and loyal. I'll keep streaming, even if it just helps a little bit. And the reviews have been very good, which is a positive sign. Bottom line, he gives me joy. I give him streams.
And I wish I could figure out The Weeknd. But I guess lots of people already have, so he doesn't need me. LOL

And I wish I could figure out The Weeknd. But I guess lots of people already have, so he doesn't need me. LOL It's wonderful that you've found a definition of "what a fan is" that works for you, but I think it's safe to say everyone has their own definition, and they aren't all the same. For me personally, I've bought the album as a digital download, a CD (sans vocals on one song, lol) and a signed LP. I have a paid Spotify subscription, and bought a pair of wireless earbuds so I can stream in the office when I'm doing a task that lends itself to it (which isn't often). Now that I'm working at home for the foreseeable future, I bought a Bluetooth speaker so I can stream with high quality sound without the earbuds. But I stream when I actually want to listen to the music. Do I stream 24/7? No. Does that make me a ~bad fan, or not a fan? By the standards held by some fans, perhaps, but not by mine. There are plenty of fans who do more than I, and undoubtedly some that do less, but if we love Adam and support him in a way that feels comfortable and natural for us, we're fans, IMO. It's not a competition, and it's not a job. Fandom, however we define it, is supposed to be fun. I'm willing to bet Adam would agree. BTW, I know I used your comment as a jumping-off point, but I am in no way criticizing what you said - I'm just offering a somewhat different perspective on it.

What Adam's Velvet 99 on all ITunes chart...please keep buying ,gifting ,etc.. I just ordered more albums.. not worried about New Eyes.. I think that missing song is hurting sales.. I can hear New eyes on first album A plus on youtube,etc.. doesn't affect me at all. also can't find him on music videos..WTF He's still OK on POP I think 13 This album deserves everything ,It's GREAT I will be streaming Velvet for the duration...We can do 2million tonight, tomorrow night Rght?? Elton John having big TV thing tonight.. Ever notice he never asks Adam... I won't be watching Do you mean you can't find the video on iTunes? It's located below the list of songs for the Velvet album in the iTunes store.. I was also curious why Elton doesn't seem to invite Adam to do stuff like the TV event, but that's just an assumption, and we really don't know what's going on behind the scenes.. He definitely knows Adam, so... Wasn't it Elton John that was instrumental in getting Queen + Adam that first gig in Kiev? And then Elton took the opening act spot while QAL took the headliner spot! Think about that! Elton could have easily asked for and likely gotten the headliner spot since he was a much bigger act at the time.

Not talking about Adam with Queen ,talking about a solo Adam... just my observation.. Sam smith seems to be his man .. that's OK.. Just think there is room for both Adam and Sam when Elton does a benefit.

Cleopatra, thanks for replying. I know how you feel. I too have bought my share of fan "stuff." It helps Adam and it makes me feel like a supportive fan. But even a fan who buys nothing is important, too. We do what we can. And you're right: It's NOT A JOB. It's ultimately a gesture from the heart, whether we spend money or not.
It's been a long-time puzzlement as to why Adam's fan base does not grow, most importantly in the US. OZ and NZ are very strong fanbases. And the UK and some European countries, like Finland, are strong. Adam gets great respect in the music industry, and when he does some high-profile performance like the Kennedy Honors or the Oscars, he gets a lot of buzz. His music is as good as anybody. Maybe it's just not cool to like him. I dunno. He gets plenty of props for his voice from just about everyone. Maybe it's his image or persona that doesn't appeal to a wide audience. Good thing he has his core fans who are here for the long haul.
