Yup! Agree wholeheartedly, nica! There is no way the AMA performance almost ended his career. It propelled him into the international market and 5 years later it made #5 of the most remembered AMA performances. No one can ever know what the AMA performance did to his initial sales. But I do know he has fans now because of the AMA performance and the controversy. That was how they found Adam. Did he lose some fans? Probably. But they most likely wouldn't have stuck around during Glam Nation anyway. Adam is not for everybody and the people who left because of the AMAs are obviously people who were not willing to give him a second chance. There have been so many Adam roller coaster rides, if not the AMAs, they would have gotten disgruntled about something else. I'm not going to rewrite history and say I was confident after the AMA performance. I was plenty skerred after the AMAs. The negative American publicity probably did help Adam with people in other countries that think of Americans as Puritanical bullies. But, Adam has had to work his ass off to regain the goodwill of just some of those Puritanical American bullies. 4Msrmyn, do you actually think he now has the goodwill of Puritanical uptight bullies? I don't! And he probably never will. That is not his audience. It does hurt to know that he was worried though. But, I also love that he never apologized. Didn't need to.

Don't ya just love the peaceful feeling of knowing something's coming? Love the unpredictability of Adam but it's also nice to once in a while know the when, where and what. Guess I am just tired of sitting on the edge of my seat--at least for tonight I am settled in it, not expecting the "explosion" but calmly waiting for the spark I always get with each new glimps of him.

Hm that AMA's thing - I think that for us, Europeans, it was not very shocking performace. Really nothing to talk about or to be offended. And Adam being openly gay? So what? Army Of Lovers, Alcazar - we've seen it all before. I don't think it was shocking to the majority of Americans. I didn't bat an eye at the kiss or the crotch smoosh (more like tummy smoosh : . It was the god awful vocals! HAHA! I've never heard AFL sound so bad.....haven't re-watched to this day. It definitely got him European press though....so all's good! :D Yeah, you're probably right but I rememeber that when Janet Jackson Nipple Incident happened we couldn't get what the big deal is. It's the same overreaction IMHO.

But awful vocal, "no way!" Worst vocal of his I've ever heard, "For sure. " But definitely better than everyone else that night except for Kelly and Gaga! It was his demenaor that I didn't like. But after he admitted it was about Hicklin, I am even OK with his anger. As a matter fo fact, I am going to go watch it right now! ;D Followed closely by the EMA performance! LOL!

It's the same overreaction IMHO. That's because the football game would be considered a family show and the nipple would be unexpected. However, the AMAs were not a family show. And almost every artist before Adam, that night, was risque... so the fact that Adam was singled out and was gay made it very controversial in more ways than one.

I cringe every time the AMA performance comes up because I get that horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach every time. I don't consider myself a "puritanical uptight bully" and I hated that performance. It wasn't just the crotch thing or the kiss but his angry face and the finger that I hated as well. I know I'm not alone either. He didn't apologize in so many words, but to my mind, and from things he said later, he regretted the performance and that it happened because he got carried away and his adrenalin was so high that night.
He shed tears over that performance, (so did I) but how I so admire that he held his head up and forged ahead like he did. He showed the heart of the man that he is - and I love him for it.

Hey Y'all :D! As it's a slow day (ya know it's slow when we're back on the AMAs again ;D) and I'm in a lull with work waiting for someone else to respond to me, so I just played a little game on youtube... As we wait (and wait and wait and wait) for Adam 2 to be released, I thought I'd make the waiting a little easier by putting together all the little tidbits we've gleaned in the form of a playlist. I just mashed together songs we know about (OOL, Cam's Dreamer), conjecture (that Claude Kelly track, for example), collaborators we've learned about (Pharrell, Mckee, Nikka Costa, Nile the Smile, Benni Blanco, Sam Sparro), influences Adam has mentioned (Daft Punk, Wolfgang Gartner, Prince, MJ, Adele, Depeche Mode), and just random guesses at the album's sound and put together a 20-track playlist (well, really it's 19 tracks but I'm a sucker for "Dreamer" so I included both Cam's version and the lowered "fake-Adam" version). So obviously this will not resemble Adam 2 in any way whatsoever (LOL for some reason it makes me think of the Hitchhiker's Guide reference to an artificially created "substance almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea"--my Adam 2 mix is "almost, but not quite, entirely unlike" Adam 2!). Still, it was fun to play around with it and to play it for myself and pretend, just for a moment, that I'm listening to Adam 2. ANYWAY, I wanted to post the link to the playlist here in case any of you are interested, and more importantly so I can get your input and edit/improve my list. This was just a first stab at it (aided largely by suggestions and links from peeps here on the board over the past few months) and I'd love to hear your thoughts. I've never "shared" a playlist before so I hope I'm doing it right. If anyone who can be bothered to check it out can let me know that the link works for you guys that would be great. (Also if you could warn me if the link somehow gives away too much personal info, say my home address, SS#, and the name of my future first born child, that would be great--I'm kinda paranoid about sharing info on the interwebs!) SO, blah blah blah I'll shut up now here's the playlist: www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLC030B6992DFCB73DLet me know whatcha think (but only if you're bored enough :D).
