Yesterday Adam was at a Protest Rally
6.8.20 by Q3 Video and lots of comments in the 6/7/20 thread. If you want to see his videos, check out the thread. If you want to comment on his participation yesterday, please do it in yesterday's thread. He also posted the Town Hall invite to LA Mayor Garcetti. http://instagr.am/p/CBHCf3eBziF ***** The following is not a political statement -- just the facts -- we have a prison problem in the US. And it is probably not what you think. 0.7% of the United States is currently in a federal or state prison or local jail.
1 in 4 of the world's prisoners is in the USA; the United States population is 4.25% of the total world population.
Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Libertarians, Greens, I think everyone agrees we need policing and judicial reform. Every year, over 600,000 people enter prison gates, but people go to jail 10.6 million times each year. Jail churn is particularly high because most people in jails have not been convicted. Some have just been arrested and will make bail within hours or days, while many others are too poor to make bail and remain behind bars until their trial. Only a small number (about 160,000 on any given day) have been convicted, and are generally serving misdemeanors sentences under a year. At least 1 in 4 people who go to jail will be arrested again within the same year — often those dealing with poverty, mental illness, and substance use disorders, whose problems only worsen with incarceration. Link to more info: www.prisonpolicy.org/reports/pie2020.html?c=pie&gclid=Cj0KCQjww_f2BRC-ARIsAP3zarGhxEUgUKwjBXWfe85z7LY6D5YP8iACsFyxz9ZbkDVCaPLKR_Vpyx4aAhGlEALw_wcB1 in 3 of the world's female prisoners is in the USA. Women’s incarceration has grown at twice the pace of men’s incarceration in recent decades, and has disproportionately been located in local jails. The data needed to explain exactly what happened, when, and why does not yet exist, not least because the data on women has long been obscured by the larger scale of men’s incarceration. Avoiding pre-trial incarceration is uniquely challenging for women. The number of unconvicted women stuck in jail is surely not because courts are considering women to be a flight risk, particularly when they are generally the primary caregivers of children. The far more likely answer is that incarcerated women, who have lower incomes than incarcerated men, have an even harder time affording money bail. When the typical bail amounts to a full year’s income for women, it’s no wonder that women are stuck in jail awaiting trial.

I'm so proud of our beautiful, kind, empathetic, Adam!! He has such a keen and realistic view of today's world and is brave enough and has chosen in many ways, to lend his participation to this so-needed cause!! (I LOVED his eyeliner too!! 😂😂😂). The segment by John Oliver was not only " right on" but extremely entertaining! 😂😂. I'm in awe of his brilliant mind!!! Thanks to whomever provided that!

Proud of Adam, too...but I sure hope he doesn't get sick. I'm glad he wore his mask, but the sight of so many people crammed in the protest gives me hives.

Another murder, a young black man by police, has just come to light! His beautiful mother was just on MSNBC this morning! Her name was Raquel Barrett -- I'm not sure of her sons name, but here's yet ANOTHER senseless death!! 😢😢. OMG!!!

Adam did perform the reggae acoustic version of "If I Had You" at the recent Velvet mini tour in 2020. Thank you, Jason! I was lucky to go to a TOH show with my friend. Had a fabulous time. Really great songs on that album!
I posted on the previous thread about John Oliver's show last night. Go back and watch it if you can. He's a great explainer of complicated issues. And the woman speaking at the end is a very powerful moment.
I think we forget a very simple element of policing in all this discussion. It's "Make the punishment fit the crime." Too many "typical" police encounters begin with a somewhat small infraction of some kind. Then, due to some word or action that should just be let go, the incidents escalates into something out of control. This can happen on either side of the encounter. George Floyd's "encounter" began with an apparently counterfeit $20 bill. That might have been the case, but it shouldn't have ended in his death.
I hope Adam shares his experience at the protest march with us on Twitter.

It’s why people and Adam are out in the streets protesting.
