If Adam came to visit me….

This is the holiday weekend for people to visit and to dine. I have done three consecutive dinners for guests. -- one more to go. Delightful experiences so far this year. The food has been great, the weather is like Malibu in NE Ohio (we like global warming here!) and the conversation has been inspiring.

Earlier today, I remembered an infamous comment from RCA Ed, that fans expected Adam to visit their homes and have some milk and cookies. Like Adam was Santa and Adam fans were all 7-year-old girls.

Well, if Adam did stumble into Akron, OH (not bloody likely) or Tupelo, MS (even less likely), either of my two adopted hometowns, I would not serve him either milk or cookies. And I am pretty sure even Adam’s 7-year old fans know better than milk?!?!?! and cookies?!?!?!. (We all know Adam prefers ice cream!)

So what would I serve if Adam came to my home? Well I usually serve food that is authentic and “in the moment” – seasonal, inspired by the guests, and designed to foster conversation. In decades of entertaining I have never served anyone “milk and cookies”. And I will be damned if I start that silliness now. (No, I do not hate cookies. But seriously, the people who visit me expect more.)

So, if Adam even came to my house, I can guarantee three things….

1. FIRE -- I always have fire – it can be as simple as candles on the table or a candelabra chandelier hanging from a Southern Oak tree by the lake but there will be fire – even for brunch.

2. NO SCRAMBLED EGGS -- The meal will be after 12:00PM – preferable starting at 8:00PM. I do not do mornings. Even Adam could not get me to make breakfast.

3. NEW -- The meal will involve an artistic experiment. All of my meals include something new. And if Adam actually was coming to my house, I would design something amazing.

So, Mr. Lambert, next time you are flying over me, why not take a detour? I promise you will not be disappointed. I promise something modern and conceptually novel. Tonight I experimented with nitrogen, dry ice and alcohol burners for “fire and ice tuna” and nitrogen-frozen cocktails and as part of a contemporary American version of a Spanish small plates dinner for some guest who are visiting the US from Barcelona and Madrid. (I used mostly local ingredients prepared using Spanish techniques. I even served Ohio wines! and a local air cured ham that is somewhat like Jamón Serrano. Of course, the olive oil, manchego cheese, sherry vinegar and olives were from Spain. And the tuna was Ahi from the Pacific, squid from the Pacific Northwest, beef from Colorado, cucumbers from Canada, peppers from Netherlands, asparagus from Peru, chevre from France, Medjool dates from California.....well I guess I use global sourcing. Gotta love planes.)

Adam, just think what I could come up with if you stopped by – a dinner suited to a visiting dignitary from another planet. The freshest foods from my favorite nearby Amish and Mennonite farms, and my local kosher butcher. So you can wear your Amish hat and go shopping with me for the best produce and cheese and meat and pyro. You’ll fit right in.

A few special things thrown in.

Whatever else, I promise that I will not serve you milk and cookies. Sorry to disappoint you RCA Ed, denied!

Note: For anyone who does not remember the “milk and cookies”, in June 2011, RCA Ed, an RCA exec who ran AdamOfficial.com and moderated the site, posted a rant about how Adam fans had unrealistic expectations and expected Adam to come to their house and have “milk and cookies”. I have read thousands of posts by Adam fans and not one ever mentioned having milk or cookies or milk and cookies with Adam. I suspect it was transference and this is RCA Ed’s secret desire.

So if Adam and Sauli came to your home, what would you do (after you fainted!) -- eat in or go out?

It's Me, I'm A Control Freak, But Thanks For Loving Me*

In a recent highlight clip from his upcoming episode on "All On The Line," Adam earnestly tells us that just because he likes to be in charge of things, he is by NO means a control freak. Okay, Adam. Never mind the ample evidence to the contrary. The long weary months we spent waiting for the GlamNation Live DVD while you pored over every frame. The sound guys who still shudder when they hear your name. Your next album coming out in Spring 2011 Summer 2011 Novemberish 2011 March 2012.

We fans have become resigned to Adam's perfectionist, control freak likes-to-be-in-charge tendencies. We mostly have learned to be patient, knowing that the end result will be worth the wait. Or maybe we just realize that all our whining and griping has no effect—Adam is a true artist and it's not until his muse is fully satisfied that he is willing to release his work to the audience. I wonder how his controlling tendencies work in other aspects of his life. Around the Thanksgiving table, for example…

Adam: Wow, this is so awesome—the first time I get to host Thanksgiving at my own place! Let's all say what we're grateful for, okay? Neil, why don't you start… wait a minute—did you just rip a piece of skin off the turkey?

Neil: [chews defiantly] Uh, yeah, and?

Adam: Dammit, Neil, I was gonna take a picture of it and post it on my Whosay for the fans. Now it doesn't look perfect anymore!

Neil: Dude, your crazy fans don't want to see your f**king turkey.

Adam: What? Of course they do! They love when I post pics of random inanimate objects! I hope you're happy that you ruined Thanksgiving for them. Okay, never mind, back to what we're grateful for. Sauli, how about you? Oh, wait—that sprig of parsley on your plate looks a little wilted. Let me exchange it for you.

Sauli: No need. Everything is already perfect!

Adam: But, babe, just think how much perfecter it would be with a nicer sprig of parsley! Trust me on this. Okay, now we're ready. Mom—why don't you go ahead and, hey—we have the wrong candles on the table!

Leila: Didn't you say you wanted the ones you just bought?

Adam: Yeah, but these are the Ocean Storm ones and that’s just all wrong for Thanksgiving. Hold on, let me get the Sage Mist candles. The color matches the green bean casserole and the scent won't clash with the stuffing. Oh, and Mom, I love how you folded the napkins into turkeys, but the wings are drooping a little. Let me just…

Leila: Adam, they're supposed to be swans!

Adam: Huh? Well, in that case we really should use the ebony-colored napkins and not the plain black ones. Hold on just a sec…
